i just booked a advance ticket from east coast trains. i booked before and i could collect normally without selecting a particular place getting the ticket on the departure of the exact station i was travelling with
now i booked bradford interchange to london and i had to choose from a list and it doesnt appear in the list to select from
only bradford on avon appears which as you know is a very different bradford -many miles away from bradford interchange-
i checked the list again and again and it doesnt show up
Im in london on the 14 th of june so i can pick up the tixs from there

thats surely no problem printing the tixs out 11 days before i use the ticket right?
plus from a different departure station

my other friend ,also not from the UK like me doesnt have the time nor possibilty to do that..how she can get the tixs then?

surely grimsby,+york has no fast ticket maschines either eh?
if bradford doesnt have one, (and i thought bradford is bigger than grimsby or york) then places like grimsby or york would not have it either?

I can't help you with the rest but, despite York and Grimsby being miniscule compared to Bradford (in town size etc), York railway station is miles larger (and busier), so there are pre-payed ticket collection machines there. Grimsby Town railway station (both smaller and quieter than Interchange) also has pre-paid collection. All three boast the same type of DIY ticket machine, but Interchange's doesn't allow you to collect pre-paid tickets.

NB - York is managed by East Coast, Grimsby Town by TransPennine Express and Bradford Interchange (and Forster Square) by Northern Rail - that may have something to do with it - I'll check.

Bradford Interchange (& also Forster Square) is operated by Northern. I assume that as Northern do not do online ticket sales, they don't need to provide ticket collection facilities.
You could collect from Leeds.
York is operated by East Coast so does provide collection facilities.
Grimsby is operated by TPE which do sell online tickets including TPE advances, so I assume they provide the collection facilities.

You can pick them up any time before your journey (I think you have to wait few hours after you've bought them on line for them to actually be available though) and yes as long as the ticket machines have ticket collection facilities you can pick them up from any station.

Yes, it's got a lot more to do with who the ticket machines belong to than the size of the station (at least if it's staffed).

The only stations in West Yorkshire you can pick up pre-paid tickets (to my knowledge) are Leeds and Wakefield Westgate. Northern have little incentive to provide these facilities. I'm not sure but suspect that Northern may be the only TOC to not provide TOD machines anywhere.

Huddersfield certainly has some and I would assume that Dewsbury does too.

Ah, TPE, I assume - I didn't know about those. Huddersfield might come in useful some day (at Huddersfield I'm usually running to or from a bus with a dayrover in hand). There's certainly none on the Shipley triangle or Caldervale lines.

Northern actually do have some that do TOD, but only at stations where there are also other TOC's machines. Examples are Preston (booking office) and Manchester Piccadilly (on bridge by platforms 13/14). Some of their other machines claim to do TOD from 2007 but still don't, such as those at Manchester Oxford Road.

The Northern machines do not offer tickets that have been ordered online. Leaves massive deserts of areas where you cannot pick tickets up. The triangle for one.

the ones at Sheffield & Leeds don't appear to

Just checked the Northern machine at Preston and there's a yellow option bottom left on the main (default) screen marked "collect pre-booked tickets". Strange that some do it but others don't.

I bought tickets from thetrainline and ticket collection from Grimsby isnt available, however it is from Cleethorpes.

And I shall not mention, when questioned, my missing return ticket that didnt come out of the damned machine at Preston either. <(

I agree that both Bradford Stations should have these machines, however if your origin station does not have this facility, then East Coast will offer you free postage.

I get offered free postage if I book from Poppleton, for example.

If anyone feels inclined, send off a letter to Metro asking for a machine at Bradford Interchange with TOD enabled. Interchange is part-owned by Metro.

it would be a lot better if you could print all tickets at home (not just some)

I have been saying this on other threads a lot but users on here do not seem to see the massive benefits. I know everyone doesn't have a printer but for those that do, or can access one it's a great system.

DB's system is excellent, virtually all tickets including regional rovers and period length tickets secured against a BahnCard (railcard) or Credit Card. Seems to work very well!

The Northern machines do not offer tickets that have been ordered online. Leaves massive deserts of areas where you cannot pick tickets up

I have contacted Northern in the past about this extremely annoying burden. My local stations have ticket machines but I can't collect tickets! I have to travel to my nearest Virgin operated station to do so..

I am sure it's the same for those on the east side of Northern, except you have to find an East Coast machine

Unless you have a blacklisted address. I travelled weekly on east Coast (and NXEC) on advances for 3 years (with my wife ordering additional tickets for business trips with her then-company credit card, also to my addres and on the same account). I had 3 sets of tickets which went missing in the post in that time (no idea which end was the problem but we had about 15 postmen in that time). EC had no problem with replacing them (although it's a rather time consuming process) but informed me that I would be unable to have any further tickets posted.

Presumably I could order from a different TOC - and at the moment I'm not using advances but annoying that this happens when there's nothing I could do about it and no local stations to collect from.

Happened to be at Newcastle yesterday and the solitary Northern ticket machine, located right next to the East Coast customer service desk on the main concourse, doesn't do TOD despite being located near to loads of East Coast machines that do and also still stating "TOD from early 2007". So it's all rather inconsistent, with some Northern machines doing TOD but others not.

Were you asking for an early morning or late evening departure, in which case the website may be clever enough to realise that the machine is in the booking office, so is not accessible when the booking office is shut. I have know occasions when people have wanted to collect a 'ticket on departure' for the 05:26 departure having to have words with the guard.
