Unable to get off at Berney Arms

Last weekend, I decided to go to Berney Arms, and then cycle to Cromer. Never having been in Berney Arms, or even travelled through it, I had a look on Greater Anglia website if there's any particular area of the train I need to be in and I saw no such information. There were also no announcements about this on the train. Of course, when the train stopped at Berney Arms, I was unable to disembark as the rear set of doors didn't open.

I was quite annoyed at this, especially since GA normally has announcements about not all sets of doors being open (at least on the trains from Cambridge). I ended up going to Great Yarmouth and cycling from there.

I don't know the route. Are you sure the train guard/conductor did not make an announcement?

Reason I ask is on a rural line near me, the train conductor always announces (after the train recorded announcement)

Berney Arms appears to no longer be listed as a request stop in either the timetable data or the PDF timetable on the Greater Anglia website.

In my experience, on trains that call at Berney Arms the guard will usually walk through the train to establish if there are passengers wishing to alight there before the stop.

Not all that far, is it (with a bike) along the Weaver's Way to where it meets the access track to/from the Berney Arms Drainage Mill (near the RSPB reserve)? Or, in the other direction, the track / bridleway that heads off towards St. Andrew's church at Wickhampton.

There definitely wasn't any announcement - I deliberately listened, because I knew GA normally has automated announcements for this on other trains. In fact, on the Greater Anglia website itself, if you look up a station where some doors don't open, e.g. Watlington, it clearly indicates that. Nothing for Berney Arms though.

As mentioned, Berney Arms is no longer a request stop, so I didn't have to announce. Perhaps if my ticket was actually to Berney Arms, the guard would have told me, but I had an Anglia Plus Day Ranger.

This actually makes me wonder - can I claim some kind of delay repay? Cycling from Great Yarmouth to Berney Arms would have definitely taken me more than 30 minutes.

Might have been an idea to mention it to the Guard in advance of the station.

It would have also shown on the platform screen where you boarded, just unfortunate in this case, should have been supplemented with an announcement whether manual or automated! I doubt you will get delay repay for that but if you don't ask you don't get!

I had a similar situation with a couple with Bikes who were on a 4 car train that attached to 8 cars at Barnham and then they were unable to alight at Ford as they were in the back of the train when only Coaches 1-6 out of 12 opens at Ford due to short platform. In an ideal world there the OBS would have announced the train joining another and to move forward if alighting at Ford or Amberley but as the train was already late when I took it over there was no time to move people about once it had attached so they had to make their way back from Arundel.

That's surprising, but I would always ask the guard myself anyway if I was alighting there, especially if I presented a ticket with a destination which wasn't Berney Arms.
