As already mentioned, i dont think Eurostar actually owned the class 20's themselves. They were contracted from other companies during construction. I swear ive seen a picture of a pair of 20's on a OHLE train in 2007 just before opening, but cant seem to find it.On wikipedia under the operators list for the class 20 it says an operator was Eurostar even though im 99.99% sure they never have and i don't think they can evenm go in the channel tunnel. I have attached a screenshot of this. If anyone knows why it says this as an operator please let me know!.View attachment 141327

(a screenshot in addition, as you did, can also be useful)There were 20s and other locos including a D95xx working out of Beechbrook Farm on all manner of engineering trains. Found this online piccieAs already mentioned, i dont think Eurostar actually owned the class 20's themselves. They were contracted from other companies during construction. Construction of the tunnel was nothing to do with Eurostar. Eurostar is a train operator. As already mentioned, i dont think Eurostar actually owned the class 20's themselves. Yeah. Thats what i was trying to say. Apologies for the mixupConstruction of the tunnel was nothing to do with Eurostar. Eurostar is a train operator.
The Class 20s involved were used by one or more of the contractors who supplied various aspects of the tunnel for Eurotunnel/Trans Manche Link.
Experienced BR freight drivers were asked to volunteer to take part in the construction of the Tunnel, as you say George Seedhouse and Harry Bird were seconded from Bescot. Two Saltley men also went I believe. Somewhat hair raising tales of type 1’s (class 20’s) operating on steep underground sections of the partially built tunnel filtered back to the home depot’s. If only the guys were still with us we could ask if some of the tales were true! The original query though was that a number of BR drivers lodged in Kent to build the tunnel. One of them was Bescot driver George Seedhouse who was already well versed on class 20s. Not sure who owned the various fleets but some of them were owned by RFS. An intersting piccie of the RFS locos stabled after their use, with some useful info in the caption
Of course. I forgot Harry Bird who was a lovely bloke.Experienced BR freight drivers were asked to volunteer to take part in the construction of the Tunnel, as you say George Seedhouse and Harry Bird were seconded from Bescot.
