I went through Tesco on a 29 about half an hour before they pulled buses, was a mob of about 40-50 youths at that point.

They thought it would be funny to push one of them in a trolley infront of the 139 ahead of me, they tried again with my bus and the trolley tipped over with the kid falling onto the road. Totally brainless.
It must be scary from a passengers point of view too though. Did any of them get on or try to get on?

No, Tesco seems to be the main congregating point for them. Since they've gone back to school their ability to organise is better - verging on going off topic here but I've had regular passengers say they don't feel safe using the buses at night any more. The McDonald's nearby the Tesco has security guards too now!

It's less of an issue on the 48 now as the kids prefer going on double decks.

The better solution (although costly and needs extra resource) would be to have sufficient layover time at the termini to recover delays.
Exactly this. The longer a route is, the more chance it has of picking up delays, therefore the more recovery time it should have at each end. It’s not rocket science. This seems to be an industry wide problem with purely scheduled routes. Two hours end to end and 7 or 8 minutes recovery time is a recipe for disaster.

It was the same as the X18. If it was late towards Whitburn, you were guaranteed it was late for the journey towards Edinburgh.

998 is away off demo now, not my photograph (998 on a low loader on Lothian Road) but have permission to post.

Yes a prime example. Although I’m led to believe this has been rectified now?
Nothing was as bad as the daft X18/X27 interworking that was going on pre-pandemic. That made both routes so unreliable and I think it saved one bus? Not much gain.

You do have to wonder why Lothian seem to have constant issues with the Electroliner demonstrator when other operators haven't.

Wrightbus are sabotaging it and want pay back!
I was thinking engineering making sure more aren't ordered

I know this is a stupid question to everyone but are most single deck Buses (like B7RLE) longer than most double deck Buses?
I'd suggest capacity, since a shorter overall length would seat too few people.

Eclipse 3s are much longer
are the Eclipse 2s longer than most double decks?

Asking because I got a model of a B7RLE in the diamond livery (fleet no. 131 with 22 branding) and what looks like a Olympian model from the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum Open Weekend and was wondering if the Ecplipse 2s are longer in real life.

Sorry if it's off topic.

The majority of double deckers in the fleet are around 11.3m-11.6m (the Ex-Londons and E400 EVs being shorter), so most single deckers bar the Streetairs will be longer than those. Only the XLBs are longer than the single deckers in the fleet. The Eclipse 2s are 12.1m and the 7900s will be the same if not slightly longer.

I'm just curious if the fare for the X40 would increase following this change. I've seen many people using it from the Royal Infirmary to Danderhall/Gilmerton as a cheaper alternative to the 33/7.

The X40 doesn’t go to Danderhall. It turns off at Ferniehill to head towards Gilmerton. I’d imagine it will charge the same as the rest of the routes in those fare zones. It’s a shame as it’s really cheap but if it potentially leads to a more frequent or improved service then I’m all for it.

It broke down on service, I don't believe it is leaving yet - an awkward position! https://twitter.com/StillMags/status/1692835755511411115/photo/1

Seems it's off to London, though a quote from this article amused me...

“We’ve created the most efficient vehicle by combining optimum power with a class-leading rapid charge, meaning our electric bus spends more time on the road than any other.

Is that Electroliner demo LY71GJE? I can’t see it going to TfL operations as I think Wrightbus built two demos. This one, and LY71GHZ (the one that is built to TfL spec)

I mean, technically it has spent lots of time on the road, albeit either waiting for recovery or sitting on the back of a recovery wagon

Fire-damaged Volvo 7900H 11 is now officially declared dead. It's currently at Volvo in Cardonald for the removal of electrics and hazardous waste.

I’ve heard at the moment the plan is to use the 800’s at the moment (they are currently at Seafield having Lothian Country branding applied) with more of the 500’s going over at a later date.
I think it was clear regarding 841-846 as the buses had already been to Livingston before moving to Seafield. 841 is now finished and likely will move back to Livingston overnight if not tomorrow. Which 500s would you refer to, may I ask?

I don't think it would make sense if it was 571-590 as they already have Lothian Country branding. It wouldn't make sense for it to be 511-518 because they would've just done some of 1051-1062. It also wouldn't make sense for it to be 551-570 so I am very confused.

As an aside to the 500s. When on 498-510 there is often a strong smell of diesel fumes from the engine inside the bus which is not usually the case for other vehicles - so is there a an issue with the seal on the engine compartment with this batch (496-510)?

SNO8 BZW (I think that's right) was on the shuttle service to York racecourse today still in its Lothian livery.

One of several sold via Ensign to York Pullman, all polished up and partially repainted by me as they were so tidy when they arrived, it was a shame to change them.
