Because it didn't involve any service increase for those of us who live on their Euston-Birmingham service, which was busy even before - making it a worse experience for those of us who arrived for the first service, which at rugby back then was LNR 3/4s of the time - great that people were using it, but it should only have been done if there were more service increases.
It was a stupidly thought out idea and, quite frankly, I'm happy that various authorities stepped in and ensured it was ended.
This route is honestly so vital for me and others when getting mostly anywhere that isn't up north or to the east, countless times throughout my life I've used it and it's mostly always heavily used I really hope they do reinstate it as it must have been very beneficial to the railways.
It’s worth noting that this wouldn’t be possible now will how well used both services are, it’s been noted in the 730 thread that Euston-Crewe will start using 12 car 350s, before the 730s come in, thanks to just how well used the service is now, it’s certainly successful.
Just before COVID, we saw 2 X Liverpool - London via Birmingham and Northampton. One was 8 car the other 4 car. Both services very reliable too.
I recall getting Euston - Crewe and I'm sure it was 8 car. Would this have been via Stoke, with one portion only calling at certain stations? Unless it detached somewhere I suppose.
They were appallingly unreliable. The trains I work out of Liverpool were routinely battered by having to load an entire train load of LNR passengers on top of our own to trip to South Parkway if it had been turned there, and that's if it hadn't been binned at Crewe or Birmingham.
That timetable was chucked because it was a load of nonsense that didn't work.

Actually I recall the (then) LNW trains terminating at South Parkway, and that was when they were 2tph to Birmingham, not London. I happened to need to use the line intensively at the time and it was highly frustrating, because it would only be announced long after there was any prospsect of getting to South Parkway from Central.
Conversely, I found the Euston services pretty reliable. The only thing I didn't like was having to wait with crowds at New Street for the train to pull in, rather than being able to saunter on to a waiting train.
These services ran until the pandemic shut down rail travel.
