I want to ban restaurants from playing the totally awful Happy Birthday song over loudspeakers when they bring out a cake for one of the diners.

Three times this happened on Thursday evening. THREE TIMES!!!

I do not go out to be subjected to this horror.
It’s bad enough once, three times takes the birthday cake

Thousands of people suddenly turning up in the pub - just as I'm about to finish my pint !

Is your local pub anywhere near Headingley, and it's just been close of play in the Test Match, or similar? ;)

No - although I have frequented The Original Oak in that neck of the woods in the past - that is a very big pub !

What if it's at a ford? ;)
The rules are the same, unnecessary speeds displacing water at/onto pedestrians is an offence and if found guilty, likely to result in direct compensation action from assaulted pedestrians. Additionally, driving at speed through a ford is not a good Idea, witness the many You tube videos of idiots speeding into Rufford Ford and saturating their engines.

Some of those videos show police 4by4s waiting out of sight to stop some of those that do get through! Whether they get booked or not is another matter.

Guessing you had Surrey County Council's incompetence up to your head during your time in the county?
The bit I'll always remember is when there was a bit of snow in early 2003. About a week after the snowfall there was just a few patches left on the odd grass verge, and a bit of slush in the gutters... when I finally saw a gritter which they'd had to hire in from Birmingham!

Parents who expect the school to be the sole educators of their children.

Yesterday I picked my 7 year old grandson up from school. Standing in the queue I heard two women talking. One was saying that at the recent Parents Day the teacher had said that her son‘s handwriting was not very good for his age. The teacher had suggested that during the summer holidays the child could practice handwriting.

’I’m not getting him to do school work during the holidays……. that’s the schools job not mine….’

The problem for many children such parents is that the parents have little skills or aptitude to learning themselves, and they probably didn't pay much attention at school themselves.

That'll teach them. Or learn them. Or neither, as the case may be! :s

I actually don't find this irritating, just bemusing, but has anyone noticed the increasing tendency to drop "H"s in pop songs, when the singers aren't obviously Cockneys?

A famous one went something like "I saw you, with 'er.... shower the 'orse, I'm done". (Not sure an " 'orse " would particularly appreciate being showered, but I don't know for certain...)

Dropping the "h" of house, i.e. " 'ouse ", seems to be particularly common.

As I said I don't find it irritating as such - but just noting the trend.

Can I ban the staircases at Wolverhampton station from having sharp turns in them which make them awkward to run up or down, thus slowing one down when one is rushing for a connection and so increasing the chance of missing said connection.

I don't think that doing anything that encourages running on stations is wise.

One that's bugging me right now - "nutrition information" on food and drink, given in the most unhelpful way possible.

Having been out walking on a warm afternoon, back home I'm drinking a can of fizzy pop from my fridge. That's not something I often do, and it's an unusual variety, so it occurred to me to check the calorie count. That's printed in tiny print, with values per 100ml. Who on earth divides a small (330ml) can of pop into 3.3 tiny glasses? It ought to be mandatory to provide the total per pack (can in this case) so that you can see at a glance what the normal amount you'd drink contains.

To make it worse, the can claims it represents "good soda, good folk, good deeds". Grrr! <(

"Fizzy drinks" are subject to the labelling regulations which mandated the nutritional values are specified in a standard measure, I.e. 100ml. That makes it easy to compare a drink irrespective of the size of the container. Similarly, for solid foods, 100g is the standard measure.

I can see the point of that, but imho it should show the total for the contents of the pack as well. Just the same as supermarket prices have to show the price per item, as well as the price per 100g / 100ml etc. We don't expect people to calculate the price of a tin of beans from the price per 100g!

We do because after much pressure from consumer groups, shops now put the price per volume/weight on shelf edge labels to make comparison easy.
However, back on topic, we're talking about nutritional information here not cost per unit. What you are asking for is illogical, - if the contents of a 330ml can is used as a mixer, 110ml might be just right, but that would make a mockery of printing the nutritional value of a whole one litre bottle.

Apologies if it's been posted already - this is quite an epic thread now! - I would inflict a public "rotten-tomato throwing" upon all the folk who use LinkedIn as a quasi Facebook.

My professional network news feed, these days, is littered with "why do we need that on here?" postings of holidays / pets / self glorification / clickbait. I'd also ban all blatantly valueless LinkedIn polls,.by those same individuals.

Possibly so. But the title of this thread is about "minor things that irritate you" and I was mildly irritated that I couldn't just read off the calorie count of my drink without multiplying by 3.3.

The packet of snack biscuits I've just eaten has both kcal/100g and kcal/pack, which is more useful to me. The per pack value is actually much more prominent than the per 100g value.

But these comments aren't a wholesale attack on the grocery trade, they're just a "minor thing that irritated me" :frown:. Nothing more than that.

Personally I’d ban LinkedIn. It’s stuffed full of virtue signalling. “I’m very proud….”

I don't mind people who open their mouth to eat. Keeping it open while chewing though ...

Or the highly cringe worthy "I'm delighted to share that...". And all the "sponsored messages" - yippee, I look like the ideal candidate for a business degree scholarship in the USA, I'd best submit my application now!

Fortunately my LinkedIn usage consists of accepting (or rejecting!) "connections", and very occasionally looking through the list of recommended people. Everything else is ignored

Their self-crafted fantasist titles make me laugh/cringe. These 2 are genuine examples: "Chief Ideation Officer" and "Head of Smiles".
Just. WHAT?
