It does certainly seem to be interestingly formatted, on the 142 they claim to have for sale they put the same photo of the inside of one (the same image that is on Wikipedia) as "Interior Photo" and "Interior photo - refurbished unit"
But… if purchasing you must have a credible plan, finance, transport etc. The ROSCOs get a lot of time wasters asking to buy stuff, which really doesn’t help genuine requests.

People are doing it with double decker buses, vans and even storage containers. Don't see why a train carriage couldn't have the same treatment - static obviously as can't see people being happy with the 06:29 Reigate to Victoria being somebodies living room/bedroom

If you haven't already done so, it might be worth getting in touch with a local railway preservation society, to gain an insight of the total cost of ownership and all likely dependencies. I guess a shunter has less revenue earning potential on a preserved line than, say, a mixed traffic steam loco / medium sized diesel loco / multiple unit.

I should rephrase. If I got a loco and the carriage (in the very slim chance I get one) I could drive the train in the morning and rest in the afternoon!
Or, with a DMU, you have propulsion and accommodation!
You will need millions of pounds if you're looking to own a train you can drive yourself on the mainline.
I think the OP's aspirations related to a preservation society or privately owned location. Hence my steer in Post #20

There are an assortment of railway coaches, wagons, brake vans and the like which have been converted into holiday accommodation, so if the idea appeals you could book into one or more of those to try it out.That is such an interesting idea and if I do in the very slim chance get a loco I could live on a real gosh darn train!
