Yes I'd advise to apply and try get your fingers in as many pies as possible.
Once/if you start to hear back from other TOCs, you can always reassess your options. There may be some rules regarding sitting tests within 6 months of eachother, but rail recruitment is slow so worry about that problem if and when it comes.

Yeah but there would be a problem applying to those who have mmi, as it will overwright the Avanti cbi.

Yes but for now, he hasn't even sat stage 2 yet and it seems recruitment has slowed significantly so there's no point holding your breath for a stage 2/CBI that may not even come until next year. Might aswell see if you can progress with another TOC in the meantime who may invite for an assessment in a few weeks, and if anything decide later if you want to risk taking the CBI if you pass MMI. Its always better to hunt, than to wait to be fed.

There are still people in Manchester waiting to hear back about assessments. Everyone knows that’s a low priority depot though and they were interviewing qualified drivers too.

There’s not really a must be / surely in railway recruitment. The pace it runs means it ain’t over until you get that rejection.

I used the Avanti trains twice a few months ago. Made me feel sick. Only train that does it. The main reason why I didn't apply.

In all the forms of transport I've had the pleasure of operating myself or riding on as a passenger, this effect has always been greatly reduced/nonexistent when you're the one at the controls.

For example, you might feel seasick if you lay down with your eyes closed on a small speedboat, but as soon as you're driving it, you'll feel fine within a few minutes!

As expected, I applied in September last year, passed February this year and looking at a course date in either January or May

Just wanted to give you an update on the status of the Trainee Driver Talent Pool!



All courses for this year are now fully booked. – If anyone pulls out of the remaining 2 courses this year, I will give the next person in the talent pool for that location a call to offer them that place.



The next course will run in January 2024 and we will start making offers for this around October/November time. In the meantime, if you have your GCSE (or Level 2 Functional Skills) in Maths, English and IT certificates please send these over so we can start preparing for who needs what when they join.
