Hi all it mentions in the upgrade that trains with bigger capacity will be stopping at the new Morley station does anyone know will these be new services with the nova or 6 car 185 fleet stopping or is it existing services been upgraded to bigger trains?

Excuse me for misunderstanding - how do the increase linespeeds come about? Better profile platforms?

Is it proposed to realign the line through the site of the old platforms? They seem to be just where the curvature is sharpest, but at most a slight realignment would seem possible given that there hasn't been any slewing where the new platforms are.

I could be wrong Snowball but I am lead to believe that because of the platforms (and the need for the train to be level) there was no cant on the line what so ever, or if there was it was very small. Now that the platforms are no longer being used the cant has been increased to enable 70mph running

The original Morley platforms have been removed, there's a video on the Transpennine Route Upgrade Twitter account, this allowed the lines to be slewed "North" and eased the curves in/out of the tunnel allowing the higher line speeds mentioned above.

The realignment of the track through the old station has already happened, with the platform on the inside of the track being completely demolished to facilitate this. The new speed signs (60/70) are in place, but a temporary speed restriction is preventing the linespeed increase being used at the moment. The same happened when the Miles Platting curve, with the 30mph limit remaining on the newly aligned curve for a few weeks until the new 55mph speed was given the sign off.

Attached are some pictures of where the old Manchester-bound platforms would have been.

Quite a bit of the Leeds bound platform still remains though, as seen in this picture.

Demolition of the Leeds bound platform wasn't required for the track slew and will happen later.

Was there not an opportunity to straighten the lines out a bit where the new station platforms sit as very crudely shown in the attached photo? If not, is it to retain a certain ‘curve’ into the tunnel if that makes sense?

There’s not much point - They’ve got 70mph out of the curve through the new station, but most importantly the long curve going in the opposite direction to the new White Rose station is 75mph and given how steeply canted that already is I’d doubt that they’d manage to squeeze any more speed out of it.

Interesting. Thank you. I had thought they might do it to achieve straighter platforms as well but I guess tolerance of the news ones is all fine.

So what's next to be done on the york to manchester line?
Stalybridge electrification?
Church fenton to neville hill junction electrification?
Leeds to Huddersfield?

If any. Other than the ongoing Stalybridge electrification.

Neville Hill seems to be ticking along nicely, I believe that is mostly mine workings being treated for slackening of the curve there.

Certainly feels like activities ramping up (slowly) from church Fenton to Neville Hill in terms of making the route ready for electrification.

As far as I'm aware there isn't a confirmed service specification for the completion of TRU. I've seen things in the past that suggests there'll be a half hourly stopping service between Leeds and Huddersfield. These would be operated by longer electric trains which is likely what this referring to. Its unlikely there'll be any change in the number or length of services operated until other upgrades have occurred between Leeds and Huddersfield.

Thank you, I have now found and watched it. Thanks to other responders too.

South or SE surely - moved towards the inside of the curve.

There must have been considerable variations in the radius of the curve along its length, or this would have made the curve worse.

I have noticed in free07s pics and on some on facebook that northern are using platform 2 instead of platform 5 at stalybridge, is there a reason for that?

The next big money to be spent will be on Dewsbury-Huddersfield, and particularly Huddersfield station and the viaduct works to the east for 4-tracking.
I think everything is in place to start, but I'm not aware of a timetable.
It will involve a lot of diversions via the Calder Valley route.

Been checking the TRU page but it hasn't been updated, still has the morley works on it.

The TRU page has now been updated with details of works for August...

On 6th/13th/20th of August, Huddersfield is closed to all trains, with TPE services between Liverpool/Manchester and Leeds/York diverted via the Calder Valley. York is also the eastern limit of services, with services to Scarboro', Saltburn and Newcastle also terminating at York.
Northern services on the Penistone line are truncated at Lockwood, with replacement buses linking Lockwood & Hudds.
Replacement buses are also connecting Huddersfield with Man Picc (fast and via all stations); with Leeds; with Manchester Airport (via Stockport); and with Brighouse & Halifax (to connect with Calder Valley services).

Huddersfield is closed to TPE (eastward only) on Sat 19th of August, with Penistone line services operating as normal.
All-stations Man Picc-Stalybridge-Huddersfield services will run with 1tph.
Liverpool-Newcastle & Manchester Airport-Saltburn services will still run, but diverted via the Calder Valley again. Scarboro' services remain truncated at York.

I'm also guessing Hull services will run to Leeds only on all 4 dates.

This might be an obvious question but I have totally lost track. Will the OHLE be continuous from Stalybridge through to Leeds or will there be gaps at certain places like around Mossley?

It will eventually be continuous but it might be a long time before Stalybridge-Standedge and Standedge-Huddersfield get done. (Especially the former, in my guess.)

Is there information available online about what work is being done at Huddersfield? At a guess, preparations for the station rebuild- as that's a big job involving some elaborate techniques to preserve the (grade 2*-listed) building on the island platform.

Sadly not at this juncture - although I'm sure details might be leaked closer to the time.
Will they be putting up the remaining gantries and wires up on the stalybridge lines on the sundays.
Hard to say - it doesn't state whether or not Northern services into Stalybridge will be affected.
That said, most/all of the main steelwork west of Stalybridge appears to be in place now, and the outstanding structures are all east of the station.

Looked on realtimetrains.co.uk, going to be replacement bus services for both TOCs on the 6th Aug.

The massive works compound to the east of the viaduct looks nearly ready. Plenty of activity-there must have been 50 cars parked there this morning. Also a lot of work seemed to be taking place on an underbridge approx a mile east. Excavations taking place at Ravensthorpe behind the eastbound platform
