While booking a Glasgow->Euston leg for a future Sunday I noticed their seat picker says carriage A is leading in the direction of travel. In my experience of Virgin and now Avanti carriage A was always at the Scottish end and first class the London end. Has that now changed for some services?

Which train and which Sunday, please? Certainly A in a Pendolino is Standard and normally at the North end.

There’s a diversion via Aston today for services going north of Birmingham, with a reversal at new st. Presumably this will result in a few units running in reverse formation. If your service is next Sunday, and goes via Birmingham, it will reverse at new st, with Coach A at the Scotland end and Coach K at the London end.

Euston-Manchester via Chat Moss does the trick, or Preston-Euston via Liverpool.

F (on all trains), and U (on 11-car).

Its C on all trains. F is probably the busiest reserved carriage.

C on all trains. U on 11 car and G on refurbished 11 cars which is most of the 11 cars now.

Depends on where you are on the WCML, going round the back via Aston, a Stafford reverse if you are going to/from Euston. More options in Scotland.
Not sure Stafford can reverse the formation? It can be used to get to Euston from Birmingham/Wolverhampton, but the driver has to change ends.

For workings in Scotland, Carstairs triangle can be used to reverse the formation. Plus, as we saw during the Carstairs work, running Glasgow to Midcalder Jn and reversing there would change the formation.

If the driver changes ends, it'll reverse the formation.

I was addressing the point

Where do they turn WCML services that are the wrong way?

by mentioning a Stafford reverse will not change the physical formation of the train, but I concede on station PIS screens it will change the coach layout, but on arrival at Euston the train will still be the right way.
