I’ve just received an email from the WYCA with a link to their rail strategy survey. I thought it might be of interest to some on here so am linking it below.

Halifax and District Rail Action Group (HADRAG) mentions this in their summer 2023 Rail Views in which one person (not me) has mentioned a Bradford to Sheffield service - this I presume will simply be an extention of the existing Penistone Line services to extend from Huddersfield to Bradford.

Either way I'm still having to wait for the Transpennone Route Upgrade even before I and a few others start requesting a Bradford to Weymouth service and I'm tempted to sugest a Bradford to Newquay service too.

That would require cross the throat at either side of Huddersfield, so it would depend on what else is chosen to run on the TPE route. It might be an extension of the proposed Sheffield-Leeds via the fast route.

With the current layout at Huddersfield, it would mean using platform 4 or 1 (up until a few years ago, the evening peak extra up the Penistone line was formed from an arrival from Bradford), but using platform 1 can mess up the mainline if the inbound service from Sheffield is delayed. Not really crossing the whole throat at both ends, but using P4 means it can't clash with the Manchester stopper (though once that service starts running through to Wakefield that'll be less of a problem).
Under the proposed layout for Huddersfield it'll be much the same as today, though the added pointwork at the West end of the station will make running in the opposite direction slightly less awkward than it would be today.

I suspect that running via Leeds is more likely though, as the original plan for Arriva Rail North was for the Leeds to Nottingham service to extend to Bradford Interchange.
