Saying thank you to bus drivers

another bus pass holder here who has in fact recently started paying not only because i agree with above but also because of other punters atitudes. I'm 26, visually impared and work and often other workers begruge a pass holder space on commuter runs so to fit in with the croud, iv payed up. What i'm anoyed with is these same people bend over backwards for an old dear of to the station

A lot of time the attitude is if you can't see it then it doesn't exist, someone with an invisible disability (eg deafness or arthritis) gets less sympathy than someone on crutches.

First Leicester Citybus is now advertising at the bay onboard that wheelchair users no longer have priority over buggies. Talk of being useless. Who is in more need?

That's a retarded decision on Citybus part. It's not people chose to need a wheelchair

Free? Never. I still think a token fare should be payable at all times. Something like the 40p fares SYPTE used to charge would sound quite reasonable.

Off Peak/Peak would be good. Say 50p off peak and £1 peak (common coinage). A good idea IMO is the Centro pre-9:30 pass where a disabled/elderly pass holder can pay for travel before 9:30 (on all modes of transport IIRC). Better yet make the elderly pass means tested - does Mick Jagger really need one?

I can only hesitate to think how much it would cost bus companies, I've seen a huge increase since they were introduced and the 9:40 is often worse than the 8:20 the latter being full of children.

Certainly in South Yorkshire, very few fares are advertised, only the "day saver" etc. There is no way that a passenger can find out how much a ticket to town costs - it isn't on the website and the traveline staff do not supply fares information. Thus, one has to trust that the driver is charging you the correct amount.

But yes I agree with you, I am a regular 'peak' bus user to get from my flat into uni, and the amount of OAPs out and about, travelling for free, with all the schoolkids and uni students crammed on too, is ridiculous - or was, Stagecoach in East Kent saw sense and imposed a 9.30 restriction on the free passes, but that was only a month or two back

If we're being pedantic it would be somewhere between quarter to and 10 to 6 but not exactly either

I suspect it will the council that imposed the restriction, not the bus company unless they previously accepted them at a time they couldn't claim anything for them.

Tom B, in my town, you usually find that you never have the same number of passengers on each day on the Buses that I catch, you can go from a full bus where the majority pay full fare (people going to work), with only myself paying £0.50, all Seniors usually wait until 09:30 anyway, not many want to travel before this time. I was under the impression that Disabled NowCard Holders in my area are permitted to travel before 09:30 Monday-Friday to enable you to get to work, no use after 09:30 then if you start @ 08:30!

something the councils north of the border are getting upset with is a rise in pass holders using travel as a social activity, spending all day on the busses because its warm, interesting, and free. i know as a pass holder personally debating this sorta thing is shuting myself in the foot but i know that the bus pass problem has to be, and no doubt wil be addressed.

I am Always happy when my passengers are polite and say thank you. We always stop outside one of our regular's house to pick her up/drop her off if she requests because there is no pavement or safe place for here stand on the road. She always says thanks you and gives us sweets.

Things i hate are:

1.) Buggy Brigade - Always moaning, cant control kids, play hell when you dont have a low floor bus or wont put prams down.
2.) People using £20 notes to pay for a £2.00 fare, have even had someone try with a £50 note.
3.)Women drivers in large cars, 4X4 who cant or wont reverse when you meet themm on a narrow road. I have even had to reverse 1 womans car for her(How do some of them pass their test)

4. ) Car drivers cutting you up

5.) Traffic Lights at the top of a steep hill, especially if i am driving a manual

6.) school kids messing around

7.) Breaking down in the middle of nowhere @ night and waiting ages to be rescued as what happened about 2 years ago lol

8.) OAP'S who take ages to get off the bus or sit down because they are too busy chatting frequenlt have to tell passengers they are delaying the bus

9) Terrible buses that wont work properly

That's not really what he said though - he said he was irritated by OAPS who delay his bus *as they don't stop chatting*, and buggy owners who can't control their children and won't fold them down if their isn't room for them.

And he doesn't like having poor quality buses.

I'd imagine these irritate a lot of other passengers too.

I find most bus drivers are pleasant, but there are those few jobsworths who are argumentative & arrogant on both Blackpool Transport & Stagecoach who are plainly rude to OAPs with NowCards. They say 'The job would be better if it wasn't for your lot!' or 'I can do without your lot'. I wonder if they went to the same charm school as Traffic Wardens & the Gestapo?

I find this to be absolute bad manners.

I have several comments to make.

1 Don't bus drivers want a job? I am sure there are many unemployed that would love to do their job!
2 For the amount of years that OAPs have worked, they are entitled to free Bus Travel. I am sure bus drivers wouldn't say no when they retire!
