Does anyone know exactly what the status of the Aldwarke New Site Steel Works is? Having passed by today, it almost looks deserted. Of its two sets of staging sidings, not one train was in sight. Just a lonely wagon that's not been used for ages.

As an aside, has the Steel Works up at Stockbridge actually shut, will the traffic ever return?

A very sad sight, and a massive loss to Rail Freight in general.

Both sites are operating.

In the case of Stocksbridge I know the activity is low, this is likely to be true of Aldwarke/Thrybergh as well.

Not sure what they're doing then, there hasn't been a train into Aldwarke/Thrybergh for many many months. Same for Stockbridge.

Most of the movements are by road, and always have been.

They made a move earlier this year to importing billets do to the high cost of producing them at Aldwarke. This will have has a big impact on the Aldwark side of the Rotherham site (Arc Furnaces and billet caster).

The Thrybergh bar mill is operating on the same site.

Stocksbridge is very quite but it is operating and they are recruiting so I guess they still see a future.

Not really that large. There hasn't been much rail freight to/from either plant for quite a while.

There’s STP paths for a loco in to Aldwarke and a train out to Scunthorpe tomorrow 31Aug 0800ish. Clear-out of wagons?
Driving past on Saturday I noticed all (what I assume are internal user wagons) coupled together in one of the sidings. So I assume it’s these that are moving over to Scunthorpe.

Passed the Aldwarke sidings on a passenger train today, and visible wagons were maybe a dozen BBA type steel carriers and perhaps the same number of internal users (mostly bogie bolster-type).

Must just be abandoned there. There hasn't been a movement into there since November 2022, and the shunters don't know of any traffic to come.

There's an STP working booked this afternoon, 1442 from Aldwarke to Tinsley, with a light loco from Doncaster before and ditto back to Doncaster afterwards. I'd guess just moving some wagons out.

There was an article earlier this week about the lack of production and the staff being furloughed most of the time.

Apparently the remaining BBA's on site are condemned and likely to be scrapped where they are. The single wagon ran to Tinsley and the loco returned to Doncaster light engine. As far as I am aware this was the last working out of the site, most stuff now goes by road.
