Little England you say? Pembroke, yes. Tenby, yes. Milford Haven/Haverfordwest, probablly. But Fishguard? I'm not so sure. Yes the coast is slightly more Englishy, but Fishguard is pretty much north of the Landsker.
I was refering to the possibility (raised by Railfuture Wales, then the RDS, a while back and mentioned in this thread) of new stations (including a Morriston parkway). And yes, the places you mention are more deserving of a fast service to Cardiff than Wolfscastle, however any more than 1 train per 2 hours on the Fishguard line would be overkill, at least until Milford Haven gets an hourly service, so the only train able to serve Wolfscastle just happens to be the fast to Cardiff (if there was an hourly to Milford, I'd imagine the current fast would not stop, even by request, at Clunderwen or Clarbeston Road). Not sure what you mean there! There are no stations on the SDL, unless you mean Bynea and Llangennech - and it could be argued that they are more deserving of a fast train to Cardiff than Wolfscastle!
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm glad something is being done about the present awful service level. It's just that I'm worried that with a service only to Carmarthen the usage might be low and if so the result will likely be the end of the line. The two changes needed to get from north of Fishguard (Cardigan, Newport, Dinas Cross, Lower Fishgaurd) to anywhere beyond Carmarthen might put off alot of potential passengers. Also, if we want those 15min time savings we need to get a regular train service over the district line before the Gowerton re-doubling. It doesn't need to go to Fishguard but, if there's no service then, Network Rail might cut the District Line (I think it is mentioned in the RUS).I'm delighted to hear the news - a Carmarthen to Fishguard shuttle will be sufficient to test the demand for a better service.
Hopefully there will be enough usage to justify an expansion towards the sort of service Rhydgaled would like to see.
Wolfscastle might be a difficult one, but Fishguard & Goodwick shouldn't pose too much of a problem. Foundations? The whole building is still there. It is in a bit of a state though, in need of alot of TLC. Still, better than Milford Haven, nothing left at all there. I had an idea a while back to try and get some volunteers together to try and restore the Fishguard & Goodwick structure, but I've no idea how to go about it. There are a couple of shots of the station in my Trains For Fishguard video here.Would it take much to re-open Fishguard and Goodwick station, looking at Google Street view, there seems to be the foundations there from the old station.
