Its utterly sickening. Carrie Johnson's advisor is on that list "for political and public service", which is going some for an adviser to a private citizen in a non-political role. But that pales into insignificance compared to the likes of Houchen, an absolute nothing of a man

Each time this kind of thing happens it throws the whole ridiculous system into focus. The whole thing stinks.

Even in the current political chaos, they ought to hold this one, although it is not a certainty. With a good candidate and a lack of coordination by other parties the Conservatives could still come through the middle. Remember, Dorries increased her share of the vote in each General Election except 2019 despite expenses scandals, waltzing off to be a celebrity in Oz, etc. If the voters still supported her then, then there are probably still enough around to elect another Conservative. The interest will be how well the opposition parties do and whether voters will split their votes or coalesce around the most likely candidate to defeat the Conservatives.

This is a tragic bit of news:

I will be gutted to see her go from the commons. :D

All hail Crown Steward and Bailiff Dorries! ;)

"Except 2019" is interesting, as the seat bucked the pro-Johnson trend, suggesting a socially-liberal tendency perhaps.
Could this give opposition parties some hope?

Johnson honours: A disgrace. Bent. They all need chuffing off into the sea.

PS the Lib Dems might well take Dorres seat. The locals are far from impressed with what has been going on with their MP and she knows she can damage Sunak by quitting and creating an issue he needs like a hole in the head.

Johnson quits as MP immediatly!

I wonder what Boris will do next. I mean he'd already stopped being an MP some time ago anyway....

So now 2 by elections

Nadine Dorries (Mid Bedfordshire)
Boris Johnson (Uxbridge and South Ruislip)

Sounds like part of a plan to bring down Rishi. If more people resign, then I am sure Boris is working on something.

He's already done all that!

I'm fully expecting Kwasi Kwarteng (remember him) to get a peerage in Liz Truss's resignation honours list, for services to the economy and, in particular, the financial sector...

But it is for the MP’s party to move the writ for the by-election and they can always refrain to do so in order to avoid an embarrassment. Other than three cases in World War II when the sitting MP was initially only presumed dead, in 1969 there were delays of 236 and 220 days after the seat was definitively known to be vacant (death and resignation). I bet the Conservatives are thinking about it.

Boris apparently had 4 MPs in his peerage list

Nadine Dorries (now resigned)
Alistair Jack & Nigel Adams (both deferred to avoid by-election)
Alok Sharma (tba)

Mr Johnson's (I'm afraid I can't bring myself to call him Boris) antics in his list has made two men look very weak and impotent:

Mr Sunak
HM The King

2019 Uxbridge: Boris Johnson 52.6% of votes, Labour 37.6%
2019 Mid Bedfordshire: Nadine Dorries 59.8% of votes, Labour 21.7%
Conservatives will lose Uxbridge and if they don't also lose Mid Befordshire their vote will be hammered there.
Kind of stating the obvious at the moment I guess.
As is the observation that Boris Johnson only cares about Boris Johnson.

Speculation in the media of further resignations tonight.

The good point made is that Boris Johnson realised there would be a vote to exclude him as an MP for >10 days which would likely pass, primarily because a lot of Conservative MPs can't stand the man, and therefore he'd probably end up with a by-election in Uxbridge to fight, assuming enough Uxbridge people supported the idea (they probably would). Which would put him in the public gaze in a bad way for a long time, so he prefers to run away crying "foul" instead.

The other good point is that "the public" has long believed that Boris Johnson is a liar and is guilty of many of the things he's been accused of. At least based on opinion polls.

Rumour of "a third Tory MP resignation" tonight, but no names yet.
''Sir'' Jacob Rees-Mogg, now he's got his knighthood and no-one other than Johnson would see his 'qualities'?!

Johnson is an absolute coward and a total man child whining on about nonsense. Is this the first time he has had to face the responsibilities of his own actions so starkly? There isn't a conspiracy against him. It is all of his own making. He thought the rules were for the little people. They aren't. You would think he would know by now: misbehave > get found out.

The sad thing is he cant show an ounce of personal responsibility or contrition which means we all know his army of media grifters will be out feeding grift to the simpletons who still worship this disgrace of a man to ensure that the hard of thinking can regurgitate it on command on social media so it can be amplified by a battalion of blue tickers who pay for a badge to demonstrate their own lack of intelligence!

Blimey! I had to do a double take when I read that, followed by immediately heading for the BBC News Page to confirm it.

So Uxbridge and South Ruislip is basically a dead-cert Labour gain. Mid Bedfordshire a lot more iffy, and depends whether the people there can coalesce around a single anti-Tory candidate. With the two byelections, I imagine it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that Labour might choose to focus on Uxbridge, leaving Mid Bedfordshire to the LibDems.

I wonder if the Mid Bedfordshire candidate will be a Joris Bohnson?
No chance. There's no way CCHQ (Conservative central office) are going to allow that to happen, and I'm not sure Boris would want to while all the partygate stuff is still being investigated and widely talked over anyway.

I'm very disappointed that I didn't get a knighthood. I mean, I did talk with Mr Johnson's father over the 'phone once. Surely that qualifies for a "gong".

The "honour" that really made me laugh, while perhaps being the one that showed the system flaws more than any other, was him giving an OBE to his hairdresser.
