You could kill 2 birds with one stone!

So what would prevent there being one too many passengers on a train, meaning that someone would have to stand. Reserve every seat and check in like an airline? That's hardly practical for commuter trains, when someone might be a little late for various reasons (oversleeping, car won't start, missed bus, whatever). Imagine trying to enforce it on the Underground! hock:

Also, when seats are available, commuters often won't sit in them, as they are the "wrong" end of the train.

At least if wearing a seatbelt on trains was compulsory it might resolve the coach E syndrome though.

(Not that I agree with wearing a seatbelt on the train. It would for many reasons just kill train travel imho. I hope to god it never happens).

Probably not. Perhaps they could have a super giant seatbelt to wrap around them all and attach it to a wall.
