Hello,
A random thought occured to me while coming home from Sheffield on the 1718 semi-fast. It was quite busy, because XC aren't running the 1721, because of the engineering work between Chesterfield and Derby. Thus we have Chesterfield to Leeds passengers on board as well.
XC are diverting via Doncaster between Leeds and Sheffield this week, but the effect in the evening is that there is a spare path via the fast route. XC aren't running a (Chesterfield-)Sheffield-Leeds(-York) shuttle, presumably because they don't have the stock. But could a different operator? If you assume that you've lots of evening peak passengers to shift, even one of Northern's 150s would help. And platforms would be available at either end, because you'd be using an existing path.
