Dispute Resolution Ombudsman, who operate the current Rail Ombudsman scheme under a Rail Delivery Group contract, were appointed following a competitive tender process and their contract will run for five years.

The Dispute Resolution Ombudsman Limited, is an independent, not-for-profit, government approved Ombudsman scheme, incorporating The Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman and Rail Ombudsman providing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) for the rail, retail, furniture and home improvement sectors.

Awarded straight back to the incumbent supplier.

I've thought of the ORR as somewhat toothless for a long time.

Unsurprising in that light, but still disappointing.

Some sectors genuinely are lucky enough to have a strong independent ombudsman that cares about the public and ensures they are treated fairly. I hope that can be rail one day.

I suppose, if one were so inclined, a FOI request could be made to enquire about other bids (if any!) in the competitive tendering process. Of course disclosure of that information might be deemed to be commercially sensitive/not in the public interest...
You might get the number of tenders that were submitted, and maybe even a list of tendering providers, but I doubt you'd get any more.

Maybe we should make a diary note to decide whether to make a bid when the new contract comes up for renewal.
