Hi guys.
I may have a rare midweek day off next Wednesday and would love to spend it on a heritage line but it looks like not many are running.
Are any Heritage lines within an hour or so of Leeds running next Wednesday?

I’ve already established that Embsay aren’t which surprised me as it’s Leeds’ half term, and I’m unwilling to put money into the ELR under the current management.

Any recommendations welcome!

Keighley and Worth Valley Railway will be running a steam and dmu service next Wednesday (31st may). Access to cab of flying Scotsman also possible.

Running all week as it's Bradford half term too, but 31st is the last day for Scotsman visits.

I imagine NYMR are also running daily if that's not too far

Thought there was shed tours and access over the following days? I haven't kept track tbh.

You are right, while I am well away on holiday!
The arrangements for FS have changed almost daily, to the amusement (or otherwise) of the shed guides (of whom I am one).
As of today last cab visits are 31/5 but shed tours (book online or at stations) on 1-4 June.

Nor relevant to you I am afraid but the East Somerset runs on a Weds, Sat and Sun for the next few months.

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies so far. My free day has moved to Friday due to work commitments.

Unfortunately that doesn’t make things much easier:
- KWVR are still in the middle of Scotsman Frenzy,
- Embsay and Middleton are closed
- I’m actually at the NYMR on Saturday anyway but would ideally like a steam fix
- Wensleydale are operating but I’m reliably told it will be the Pacer rather than the 122 and it just doesn’t appeal to me
- ELR is a no-go

Have I forgotten about anywhere that’s a reasonable drive or train journey for a day trip?

It is a regular passenger service on the KWVR with Taff Vale 85 and the Pacer. FS is just on shed. So no frenzy!

No steam on the NYMR due to lineside fire on 25th May. Currently staying in Whitby for a week and was looking forward to a trip but damned if I'm paying the fares they charge (there 7 of us, so it's not a cheap day out) if there's no kettle on the front.

Website says no more steam "until there is a change kntbhe weather". That'll be autumn then.
Seems a bit of an overreaction BWTFDIK.

More likely just a precaution for the next week or so whilst the current warm dry weather is forecast to continue. Rather unlikely they would kill the kettle enthusiast market off over the entire summer as well as the families who expect to see some steam. They've got the 25, 31 and 37 to use in the meantime.

Just seems bizarre decision to have no steam over the school half term. It must be disappointing/putting off loads of punters.
And there's going to be more and more warm dry weather until autumn.

I think it is highly likely there will be rain sooner than that, which is what matters.

I wonder what NY Fire and Rescue know :)

Though you can get a Haworth shed tour, which you wouldn't normally.

If you are free on Friday 2nd June, then there is a lot to see on the Great Central as it is the start of their 3 day 1940's event with lots of action and trains running.
Full details on the GCR website.

Loco rota shows 31601. Presumably be only to Shottle like the steam service at the weekend.

The NYMR will be running diesel-hauled trains, including to Whitby

If you’re lucky, the Grosmont to Whitby leg will be steam hauled.

Confirmed steam hauled form today. Rest of the line still diesel.
Why they didn't leave this section as steam hauled all week is nonsensical - it's still dry so there's been no reduction in fire risk. Unfortunately tomorrow is our last day and the kids have decreed beach if it's sunny. We'd have gone earlier in the week if we could have had steam for at least some of the journey.
