The 21:21 1F35 Bristol - Portsmouth has a duplicate Q path 21:21 1F95 Bristol - Portsmouth (via Eastleigh)
This is nothing new it has existed as a Q path for years in the system.

This had been changed to 165105, however the whole move has been put on ice for a week.
As ever, watch this space……
'Counted place' reservations will be in place, not actual seat reservations.Reservations available from Frome (can you really book a seat on a commuter train).
Looks like the plan to split 3car 158s to 2car to avoid 2car Portsmouth-Cardiff trains has failed to avoid 2car trains already.
Appears 1F12 09:23 and 1F28 17:23 from PMH, 1F19 13:30 from CDF, and 1F03 05:51 Bristol-PMH are all a 2car 158
The 1F05 06:28 from Cardiff is a 5car 158 formation today, operating a 3car and 4car instead of a 2car and 5car is clearly not the GWR way.

Where does 1F12 and 1F05 diagrams start from? If it’s not the same place how do you expect a 3 and 4 to be put together rather than a 2 and a 5? As mentioned it may have been easier operationally to short form the 2 car, knowing it would be made up at Bristol or Westbury?
The 2 car 165's are far better than a 2 car 150 though, every 166 I've had this week has had at least partial air conditioning too!166203/205/210/212/220. 5 working Devon Metro today, must be a record. Been a good week although a couple of 2 car 165s have worked a couple of diagrams earlier in week.
The benefit would be for 4 car 165's, they'd fit at Topsham, Crediton and Eggesford loops.Completely hypothetically speaking, but if some form of SDO were fitted, would it be worth it for Devon metro? Or does infrastructure at passing loops also constrain length of trains? I get the impression that 4 car 165s could work, but being 92m rather than just over 80m, the extra 12m could cause issues.
I must say I was slightly perplexed when they extended the platforms at St James Park to accommodate 4x 20m vehicles, but not 4x 23m ones. Was there a structural reason for this or was it just a case of budget constraints I wonder? The benefit would be for 4 car 165's, they'd fit at Topsham, Crediton and Eggesford loops.
The only platforms that they won't fit are Eggesford, St James Park and Lympstone Commando, and obviously Newton St Cyres, but that is local door operation anyway.

4 car 165s must also trigger local door operation at Exton too as this occurs with a 150/158 combo. The only platforms that they won't fit are Eggesford, St James Park and Lympstone Commando, and obviously Newton St Cyres, but that is local door operation anyway
I would disagree with that as it was all the 3 car 165s would be at Exeter allowing the 150s to be scrapped that now have to soldier on because the 769s were scrapped. Exeter depot new shed was designed for 3 car trains with a lifting road for bogie exchange. At the time there were no plans for anything other than 4-car 150 or 3-car 158 to work the Devon Metro area. The Turbo fleet was planned as a purely SPM based operation working the radial lines into Bristol and in particular the Cardiff-Portsmouth / Gloucester-Westbury axis. These things changed when the GWEP programme was cut back.

Actually it was the plan when the 769 scheme was authorised by the DfT. Originally 10 of the 150/2 fleet was to go north with the 2 x 150/0, leaving 10 x 150/2 units for the Cornish branches (and possibly Okehampton). The Devon metro was going to be all 3 car Turbo.

158769 on the 5 car you mention, failed at 1355 at Bristol, so couldn't attach to 1F19 at Bristol in the way that would seem "sensible" .Looks like the plan to split 3car 158s to 2car to avoid 2car Portsmouth-Cardiff trains has failed to avoid 2car trains already.

Doesn’t seem to have, looks to be working the Bedwyn shuttle today. There are some Turbo peak STP schedules around Bristol running multiple days so perhaps just operating a unit down for a few days?165107 should be the one thats gone West to replace it.
