Loco hauled trains most definitely still operating.
If you are on Facebook, ask to join "The Official Portuguese Railway Appreciation Group", there is a pdf in the files section with all loco hauled trains on. (technological difficulties / incompetence are preventing me from posting the file on here
)
Also check out https://trainstatus.pt/ (also available as an Android app, not sure about iphone) which shows current allocations from personal sightings.

Confirm above-was there some 4-5 weeks ago and did the daytrip out of Porto-all the way and back in same stock on an INterrail. Dep. Porto around 8.30 and with heavy delay at outer end. This set was really needed as even in this not much high season time a large load of daytrippers, brought there in bus-coaches, boarded at some intermediate stop for the most scenic part. Sorry, I am not much of a fleet-enthusiast so dk what type of loco etc.

The 8:20 (Sat / Sun only), 9:20 and 13:20 are all 1400 out of São Bento, a class 26 electric usually brings the stock down from from Contumil.

I was at Pinhao on Monday the 22nd around lunchtime and a class 14 arrived as we were leaving the village. We had to wait at the level crossing to let it enter the station. It was blue with a white stripe along the side pulling 4 coaches, one was red and white, the second one yellow and white, the 3rd and 4th were silver. As our coach continued to Regua the train was visible on the opposite side of the Douro also heading that way and I managed to video it on my phone. Unfortunately I failed to id. the loco. I thought it was 1485 but it obviouslyit wasn't. If anybody can correctly id. it I would be pleased to know what it was.
Also, if anyone on here can suggest any publications that list all the CP locos and units again I would be very grateful.

Probably 1455, there are only three blue ones; the others are 1413 and 1424.

1424 was working on the Douro line yesterday, so could also be that one.

The number was along the bottom under the cab so 8 could easily be mistaken for 5. It was travelling quickly over the crossing at Pinhoe. I saw 1408 in Lisbon and it had a plate with 1408 on at the nose end

I was there a couple of weeks ago and had a great time. Plenty of EE action, the vintage stock is charming and in good condition, and the scenery is outstanding. Plenty of station stops, tunnels and rock cuttings for added aural pleasure. The locos I travelled behind were running really sweetly and the windows on all the stock open nice and wide!
Anyone going at the moment should be aware that there's a long-running strike taking place which is disrupting services on all lines in Portugal. When I was there in April that affected 2 of the trains on the Douro Valley but it was changing from one week to the next. Revised timetables for each week were being published on the CP website.
Also worth mentioning that you can travel the line virtually on Google Streetview. If you spin the view around you can see how they did it...

On mine (first carriage behind the loco) the door was open too, which allowed a lot of loco din in. The windows go down a long way on the vintage stock. The serious climbing is near the start after it branches off from the Minho line, before descending down to the river, that gave the best racket.
I picked up the Douro train at Ermesinde having travelled up from Ovar on a 2600 (nez cassé) hauled service. I was expecting to have the same loco out and back on the Douro, but at Pocinho there was a blue 1400 waiting to go on the other end for the return journey, and that was then swapped for another orange one at Regua - apparently they do shuffle them round like this at the beginning of the week, with a loco kept at Regua as a kind of Thunderbird. If you’re really lucky you might get two on the front when they’re swapping traction around. Anyhow, I can highly recommend the trip. Orange ones are noisier was my empirical finding.

I've just arrived in Porto, Portugal and am looking to do the Douro Valley line from Porto Sao Bento to Pochino on the fresh air carriges with the series 1400 loco. I leave on the 26th of July. The service doesn't look too promisingly due to the strike going on from the 6th July to the 6th August. Is it still possible to do Porto Sao Bento/Campanha to Pochino on this type of train. I want to avoid the rancid units like the plague. What day is generally the best to do it and what time is the best to leave Sao Bento/Campanha? I've got a timetable but I don't think it's still accurate due to the strikes. I don't mind leaving from Porto Campanha as long as the train starts there and is a loco hauled set. I've attached the timetable I've been looking at and the services I think are loco hauled.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. Just confirming that's only on the Saturday and Sunday?
If you mean the 8.20 specifically, the timetable you posted says " daily 6 July to 10 Oct."
