Something I recently noticed after 15 years of travel on Merseyrail is these BR York plates on the 508s, which are positioned low down on the carriage sides. Looking back through old photos I don't believe 507s have them. Hopefully some may be saved but I suppose the screws may be seized by now.
They are being saved, more information will be released by the company in due time.

A friend of mine said 507008 has been withdrawn last night, I've not seen this posted anywhere however.

Can anybody confirm whether it is the case or whether it is out today?

Cheers

Both 507008 & 507027 have been withdrawn and are currently being coupled together at Kirkdale, they're forming the 10:16 ECS to Birkenhead North.

Daft as this might be but would it not make sense that if units are withdrawn at Kirkdale for them to be towed away from there

The small second batch of 507s, 507031-033, do retain their builder's plates. As you say, the earlier 507s don't, for reasons I know not why.

Is there a through connection easily accessible from Kirkdale without reversal/run-round to complicate things?

Much easier to move them under their own power to Birkenhead, then undertake component removal there to keep others going. I believe 507/8 maintenance is done at North these days? Also easier as its a straight forward drag up the Borderlands Line to Wrexham and straight down via Shrewsbury and the Marches direct to Newport. No need for reversing then as far as I know! (Except on 140s drag which for some reason reversed at Shrewsbury to go to Crewe for the night, then head back via Shrewsbury the next morning)

That's exactly it, it's also cheaper as we don't need to hire 2 locos as there are no reversals required.

Hi everyone

I am very out of date with this ...

I'm in the region in mid June - will there be many 507s/508s running around still?

If yes are they on a particular line?

Cheers

The vast majority will still be around :). Only Kirkby and some Ormskirk serviced are currently 777s

All maintenance on 507/508 has been done at Birkenhead North probably since Hall Road closed,

Ah ok, well I'm sure very few people know at the moment, they'll probably want to hold off a bit now until they can get more 777s in the country and running.
I think the problem is that sadly to an extent it’s out of Merseyrails hands now. The old units as they run out of miles have to go :(
