How many operators now have non diesel buses eg electric , hydrogen , hybrid ?

Ember run their express coach operations with a complete fleet of electric coaches.
Their staff route learning vehicle is a diesel Ford Transit and they have been known to hire in diesel minibuses from Timberbush.

Stagecoach in Cambridge has 2 electric double deckers, usually deployed on Park and Ride.

The Whippet/Cambridge University route U is getting new electric buses later this year.

Stagecoach South have nine electric ADL E200MMC buses in Guildford, built with the Park & Ride routes in mind, though one could find them anywhere in recent times.

I'm sure there'll be countless examples of electric buses in London!

The Mercs are on the Glasgow to Dundee route now and then, perhaps due to low passenger numbers?

Nottingham City Transport have 143 CNG powered double deckers that are pretty much the backbone of the whole fleet, plus some electric single deckers on order. From 2007 they also had three ethanol powered buses, but a few years later they were converted to diesel.
Additionally around Nottingham, Community Transport 4 Nottingham (CT4N) operate some BYD and Optare electrics on City Council supported routes

Most major operators have non-diesel vehicles now - off the top of my head out of Scottish operators, Stagecoach East Scotland, Stagecoach West Scotland, Stagecoach Bluebird, Stagecoach Highlands, Lothian Buses, Lothian Country, Ember, McGill’s, Xplore Dundee, First Glasgow and First Aberdeen all now have electric, hybrid and/or hydrogen vehicles.

Ember only tend to put the Sprinters on if there isn't a TCe12 coach available. In the case of a shortage, they seem to prioritise the E1 for coaches and thus put the Sprinters on the E3 to ensure service is maintained. Though according to bustimes.org the last time a Sprinter was out on the E3 was the 25th of January, so it's a rare occurrence.

Nottinghamshire County Council own 5 BYD/ADL electrics. 1 is loaned to Stagecoach Mansfield (used to be 2 but one was destroyed by a fire)

Quite a few operators now including some coach operators - add Coventry, Cardiff, Manchester, Newport and Leicester that have increasing numbers of electric buses. The first of 30 deckers for Cambridge started service yesterday (plus the two already there) whilst Crawley have started to introduce their Hydrogen buses with Liverpool due to start imminently (if not already).

I have seen two operators of electric coaches on London - Airsym and Evan Evans tours both with Yutong coaches. Here is a pic I got yesterday of one of the Airsym coaches in Victoria:

The Citaeno BEV buses on the London C10 route are holding their own, not many stoppages lately, in 50 years of bus travel, only had three PSV terminal failures,, the first being a diesel coach, and the others the Citaeno on tthe C10 route,the Citaeno would be running well then go into slow-speed limp mode, the most recent failure was not due to overloading, I was the sole passenger.

National Express in Coventry and Birmingham have a large fleet of electrics under the 'platinum electric' brandname.

The only ones in use currently in South Yorkshire are the Hybrid E400H at Stagecoach Sheffield’s Holbrook depot.

All the rest in South Yorkshire are currently Diesel powered although Electric buses are due at Stagecoach Rawmarsh depot for 22X & 221.

Whilst not 'technically with it' the batteries on electric/hybrids require replacement after a number of years. The cost of so doing outstrips the net book value of the vehicle. So now we see buses prematurely scrapped just over halfway through their normal working life.

Considering the size of Arriva's UK operations, their EV investments seem paltry.

Reading Buses have a fair number of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and at one time were sourcing gas from 'biogas' producers. Their website says 60 of fleet of 147 is gas powered.

I think at least some of their hybrid buses got de-hybrided due to the cost of replacing batteries, as the batteries have a shorter life than the buses.

And I understand they have trialled an electric bus or two, but don't think any have become part of the permanent fleet yet.

That's a Yutong coach, not Mercedes.

Cheers, that pretty much explains it then! Still seems rather mad though scrapping what is really, only a 12 / 13 year old bus while 52 / 54 plate Tridents solder on.

The 30 new Stagecoach electric vehicles all entered service in May or June, mostly on Park and Ride but also on route 2.

But the 2 prototypes have disappeared, I'm not sure when or where.

The Whippet/Cambridge University route U is getting new electric buses later this year.

The new Whippet electric vehicles have started to appear on the U in the last few days.
