Was intially tresspasser on line near Preston but since updated to fault on train near Lancaster, lines reopened, current (14:25) projection is severe delays until 16:00

Broken down train on northbound line between Preston & Lancaster. Don't know why it is taking so long to move it. Has been stuck for about 2.5 hrs now.

Caught up in this today at Preston since 1041.

Train staff said that they tried to move the train under it's own power, but then had fitters out. Either way, seemed catastrophic as it took near five hours to rescue it.

1C54 (formed 195102 and 195101) failed just North of Preston at around 10:45. The Driver managed to isolate the fault and the train got moving again towards Lancaster very briefly but the fault reoccurred.

A train to train evacuation was carried out.

I think a fitter was sent to fix the broken units. The errant 195s eventually got back to Preston.

Is there an outright operational reason they keep stopping services short? A double train load going to Glasgow which had managed to leave Preston has just been dumped at Carlisle, for example.

Presumably driver hours are coming into it, if trains have been stopped for 2 hours or more.

Been busy this afternoon; but I just had a look on RealTime Trains. Lots of cancellations shown at Lancaster, but I'm getting the reason as "cancelled due to faulty brakes (MN)" for most of the affected trains. Is it my PC or RTT??!

The fault on the broken down train was a dragging brake issue.

RTT will be taking the delay code as input to the TRUST incident.

Going to say that dumping three to four full Pendolinos at Carlisle at 4pm and only starting to make announcements about the followup services at 6pm has not been well managed. The control choice to terminate the services here might have been guided, but as a passenger, even knowing and understanding the railcos this has been a shambles.

Bunch of services now bunched up outside Carlisle, original train of mine got canceled at Preston so now on the 2 hour later service but even that's a hour late now

Yes but not directly as the distance between tracks was too big so passengers had to climb down to track level and back up onto the rescue unit.

The massive chaos caused by a single failed train shows, in my humble opinion, why bidirectional signalling should be regarded as essential, not an expensive luxury.
