Train Sim World 3 class 40/45 AWS/change ends woes

This question is open to all, even if you don't have TSW3 or any train simulator.

Problem is, which I'm ripping my hair out about with (well I have no hair!) is actually activating the AWS on the class 45/1 on TSW3.
First of all, the route does have AWS - but that doesn't matter as the flaming thing wont move anyway.

The way I read it:
Go into rear cab, check change ends is off (which is by default)
Front cab, change ends on then unisolate AWS insert then master key (have tried change ends, master key then isolate AWS etc.. and so on... etc..)
When I start mauling with change ends/ AWS unisolate : cant move any controls, when move controls manually and the fault light lights up.

I've trawled through Google, but it says I'm doing everything right - even tried it on the class 40 and it does the same thing.

Anyone any ideas?
Or how does it work in the real world?

You are turning on both the AWS lever and the isolating lever at the driving end, aren't you?

In terms of struggling to get the things moving, have you definitely inserted the master key on the reverser? Also, on start up at least I've previously found that you needed to move the controls via mouse rather than using keyboard shortcuts initially for them to work properly. I vaguely remember on one of the transpennine loco's you needed to switch on the battery on the outside of the loco first (about half way down on the loco body).

I've had it moving without AWS, as soon as I fiddle with the AWS/Change ends it wont move and the 'fault' lamp lights up.
