I need to go to Glastonbury on Sat-10-Jun, departing Paddington. Public transport seems limited...

I don't mind paying for a cab from an appropriate station, but want to avoid (a) paying £100 return just for taxi and (b) arriving and finding that no transport is available.

What is the optimum route please? Many thanks in advance.

The only station nearby is Castle Cary on the line from Paddington via Taunton. Bruton on line from Waterloo is not that far either.

Alternatives are going to Bristol and getting a bus towards Wells etc

I think you might be able to get a coach to Weston super Mare, Taunton, or Wells then a taxi too

From the official Glastonbury website:
The best railway station to reach the Festival is Castle Cary

There’s a FREE shuttle bus for Festival ticket holders running between Castle Cary Station and the Festival Bus Station throughout the Festival. The bus station is next to Pedestrian Gate A. The shuttle operates from Wednesday to Monday (there is no service during the night when trains aren’t running). Remember you will need your Festival ticket to use the bus service to the site.

NB: Please note that all the buses returning to the station (Castle Cary and Bristol Temple Meads) on Sunday and Monday are timetabled to arrive at the station before the last train. Don’t travel to the station outside these times as you will have to wait in the car park without any facilities. It is better to wait in the Bus park where there is shelter and food and drink and get the first bus in the morning.

You can get a taxi from Castle Cary, a bus from Bath to Wells, and a connecting bus to Glastonbury, or a bus direct from Bristol.

Bruton on line from Waterloo is not that far either.
You mean Yeovil I think? There is a bus service from Yeovil Bus Station to Glastonbury, but of course, Yeovil is a nuisance to get to from Yeovil Junction.

Yes, indeed, but those buses won't be running on 10 June.

It is possible to get a bus from Castle Cary to Street, for connections to Glastonbury on a Satuday.

As you are saying 10th June I presume you mean Glastonbury rather than the Worthy Farm Pilton festival which does not start until 21 st June?
376 bus every 30 minutes from Bristol Temple Meads station takes you direct to Glastonbury.

If you are going to the town of Glastonbury from Castle Cary, I would suggest booking a taxi in advance, or at least having some numbers. There never used to be many taxis and I don’t think they met the local trains. (My detailed knowledge is several decades out of date.)

If you are going to the festival site, it is about half way between Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury. You might be able to get a bus (South West Coaches now, I think, although it used to be Wake’s) to Shepton and, if you don’t want to walk from Cannard’s Grave, it is either a taxi or, just possibly, a bus operated by FromeBus.

My preferred route, when the rail/bus connection at Castle Cary works, is a train to Castle Cary, then bus 667 to Street and another bus to Glastonbury. This does need careful planning as the 667 is infrequent.

If there is no good connection at the right timings then the other rail option is train to Bristol and bus to Glastonbury.

There is a coach from Hammersmith to Glastonbury but it runs once per day getting into Glastonbury late in the evening.

I have also gone by rail to Yeovil Junction and got a bus into Yeovil then another to Glastonbury, which is slow but for a Network Railcard holder can be cheap enough to make it worth doing as the Network Railcard is valid to Yeovil but not to Bristol.

Thanks all. These are most helpful comments. I'll probably go via Castle Cary with a pre-booked cab and some just-in-case numbers.

I'm just going to Glastonbury the town, not the festival.

I have no idea if that is still a thing but it might be worth a look
It is just reselling tickets on the Berry's coach service mentioned above. Coaches that run once a day aren't timed well for all users.

Hi, there are a few options for traveling from London to Glastonbury. The first option is to take a train from London Paddington Station to Castle Cary, which is the nearest train station to Glastonbury. From there, you can take a taxi or bus to Glastonbury. Another option would be to take a coach bus directly from London to Glastonbury. Finally, you could also consider renting a car and driving to Glastonbury
