Other operators that do paper timetables…

Devon County Council

---

West Yorkshire Metro have started some very basic affairs for some services only and only for that matter in Leeds and Bradford

Often even if there are any timetables getting hold of them can be a challenge with many travel shops having closed down
Devon County Council timetables are the only timetables that cover all services in Devon since Stagecoach threw in the towel a few years back, sadly the Devon bus map has been relegated to an interactive thing instead.

Meanwhile in West Yorkshire only a select number of routes are covered by the new basic timetables, Huddersfield now stock the 310/314/316 (Holme Valley Connect), the 501/503 to Halifax, the 321/324 to Meltham and the 547/8/9 timetable to Brighouse/Halifax. Yet Bradford had the 363/X63 timetables and Huddersfield have none. Anything for Wakefield can be obtained from either Casleford or Pontefract since Wakefield's Arriva travel shop was closed down a few years ago.

When Halifax has reopened there should have some on display (I'm guessing the 521/522/523 Halifax to Illingworth services alongside the 510/512 Mixenden and maybe the 590/591/592 towards Rochdale and Burnley) with ziltch for the others. I cannot see why Metro simply doesn't print a single guide for First services in Halifax and one for the TLC services in the Upper Calder Valley as it'd probably be cheaper to produce on A4 and then update with an amendmant sheet detailing the changes.

Certainly not seen any Stagecoach North Scotland ones in Aberdeen or on their buses.

Personally I prefer their paper ones as the website doesn’t have a list of services, rather you have to “journey plan” or actually know what service runs between two points. It would be handy if they had simple links to the timetables like First have. But that’s a whole separate discussion!

It’s great they’re returning.
Lots of Scottish bus companies have then.

As its stands, do the following have timetables?

Stagecoach Bluebird or Highland
Stagecoach West Scotland
Lothian city
most of Midland Bluebird except the X10
First Glasgow

It’d pretty poor that Lothian don’t have any for their city services. If anyone in Scotland did have timetables you’d expect it to be Lothian.

The ones before COVID were decent with maps, city centre maps and fares info, as well as the timetable

Lets be fair here, SPT have now removed the timetable racks. Does Braehead still have them?
They could use the racks in the Citylink office.

Lothian do a summary booklet, with a network diagram and route frequencies. Lothian Country and East Coast Buses have full timetables but their networks are much much smaller.

Prentice of Haddington do individual route timetables.

I've not seen a Borders Buses one though.

Not seen a paper timetable for McGills (West of Scotland) for a long, long time. Given the recent extensive changes to their routes, and the high number of elderly (and therefore not necessarily computer-savvy) passengers on their buses, they would be extremely useful.

I don't know why other areas of McGill's don't have them if Xplore Dundee does.

In fact, Xplore has has them since August 2022.

They have them for all their commercial routes in the West, and at Eastern Scottish. Only the X10/X10A has been done so far at Midland. You can see the pdfs on their website.

I've started a poll! Are Bus Timetables Back in Your Area?
Vote "Yes, all", if all or very close to all are back.
Vote "Some", either if a few operators have it, or your local operator only has a few routes with a paper bus timetable.
Vote "No" if none of your local operators have their timetables back!

If Stagecoach East Scotland are going for a "professional look", with their new dull timetables maybe SPELL correctly. Glamis is spelt "Slamis" on my local 20/21 | 22 timetable.

For my local area Lancashire:

Absolutely nothing from Stagecoach MCSL.

Blackpool Transport and Transdev, however, do produce timetables as do the council for tendered routes.

Does anyone know the full list of Stagecoach areas who have timetables?
For starters, I know Stagecoach East Scotland do and Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire definitely has at least one - the Lake District Travel Guide thingy.

Last year Diamond Bus produced 2 excellent quality books for Kidderminster and Redditch areas with fill timetables and a Network Map.

These were distributed door to door in Kidderminster at least, but didn't seem to be available at local libraries, Bus stations etc.

Stagecoach have produced extensive numbers of books/booklets/leaflets in the new standard style since last autumn across many of their operating areas, including East Scotland (numerous publications for Angus, Fife and Perth groups), Highland (including two very large books), Cumbria & North Lancs (numerous books and booklets), Merseyside & South Lancs (e.g. Chester book, 280 booklet), West and Oxfordshire (numerous books and booklets), East Midlands (at least one booklet), Cymru (at least one booklet), South (booklets). South West, of course, produce their own style fold out guides for Exeter, North Devon, Plymouth, Torbay. They also worked with Devon CC to prodice the new Exeter comprehensive book.

Interesting, as I have not seen any Stagecoach timetables up here in Scotland. I guess you have to contact Stagecoach directly for them?

I picked up one in Nottingham for the Worksop Flyer. Transdev and Nottingham Transport had a good range of paper timetables. The new Broadmarsh Bus Station in Nottingham has no timetables.

No timetables in either of Leicesters Bus Stations.

In Leicester the First Travel Shop (At the top end of Haymarket Bus Station, by the entrance to the Shopping Centre) has a range of individual route timetables and maps

Stagecoach Highland produced two very large books (each over 100 pages) - Inverness City Guide and Beauly Firth Guide - for the January 2023 changes, although of course there have been further changes since then; plus a smaller one for X99. They have been in copious supply at Inverness Bus Station.

East Scotland have produced a mountain of books/booklets/leaflets, mostly dated October or November 2022 but not publicly avalable until later. The larger books/booklets include Cowdenbeath/Cardenden; Dalgety Bay; Dunfermline/Duloch Park; Kirkcaldy Town; Levenmouth; Perth City Services; St Andrews Town; X7; 15/17/19; 20/21; 27; 30 group; 73 group; and a number of smaller ones.

I've not been to other local bus stations, but Transdev Keighley brought back paper timetables very quickly, but usually they had some others for a wider area on display at Keighley Bus Station (e.g. Bradford hospital services) - they've got some surprisingly distant Transdev area ones, but nothing else.

Paper timetables at stops disappeared during Covid (ironically they were present and wrong when bus companies were changing times very frequently and were removed just as they started to stabilise). They returned at some main stops a few months ago (longer ago in Leeds) and then a couple of weeks ago returned at all the stops I've seen with a case for them.

Do Preston Bus still do printed timetables?

I recall pre-refurbishment there was not one, not two, but three different travel centres where bus timetables of various types could be picked up in Preston Bus Station

Now post refurb, post austerity, post bus war, post COVID, all you have is a glass window that occasionally may have someone stood behind it

Some, but mostly only at the info centre at Preston bus station, which only has very limited operating hours.

There used to be bus timetables on board vehicles, but I haven't seen this for a while.

Timetables behind a glass window is a pet peeve of mine. Better than no timetables but awkward when you want them all.

I'd just explain to them that I'm a bus enthusiast and not really care what they think lol.

I guess it can be embarrassing, but at the end of the day, if you want the timetables you want them!

I agree, yes, it's a pet peeve for me too.

Does anyone know of any bus stations which have a batch of the Stagecoach East Scotland timetables? I believe Glenrothes does, but that isn't too local to me.

Something I've got in my head is St Andrews Bus Station, but I'm not sure why. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I've checked Dundee Bus Station, none. They used to though.

Last time I was out on Stagecoach East turf there was none. Dundee has had none for a while now.

Back in the day, I think you could purchase complete sets of bus stop panel timetables from London Buses, likewise when there were graduated fares, you could purchase complete sets of fare tables from their Commercial Office.

Not sure if it’s possible to currently purchase complete sets of panel timetables from Tfl or at what cost or from which department.

Maidstone & District & East Kent Bud Club used to run a timetable and leaflet subscription scheme for its members.

Ray Stenning design (is that the name)? also had a subscription scheme for publicity that he / they produced.

Not sure of any current subscription schemes of this nature.
