Just received a message stating RDG had made a formal offer today to ASLEF. This will be discussed by the EC tomorrow after which details will be released. An interesting few days ahead to see if the dispute can finally be resolved.

I was told at lunchtime that talks had been rather positive & an offer expected to be made by the end of the day. Just received notification too. Let’s hope it turns out to be good news.

In % terms, it will only be what’s been offered to the national TOC staff

Heard its a packet of ready salted and a can of vimto
You'd have to be mad not push for at least a bottle of vimto and something like Walkers salt and vinegar. You'll get supermarket own brand if you don't specify that properly!

Am hearing more strike days will be announced tomorrow
Really so before the EC have even had a meeting they've decided to reject said deal and announce more strikes. I assume you've got a rock solid source for this??

Not sure I believe this either.

It sounds like more of an RMT kind of stunt.

I would go for parity with Scotland - Irn-Bru and Tunnocks. For the latter, tea cakes or chocolate waifers should be an option!

Seriously, if there is an offer that might form the basis of a settlement, something needs to be put to members to gauge the mood, even if it is only a quick on line referendum. That would put the Union in a very powerful position when it comes to sealing the deal.

Nothing *needs* to be put to the members. The union can gauge feeling without a formal vote.

I disagree, if strikes were ongoing and the offer was very similar to anything previously offered then the union might be best placed to make a judgement call. But if they are potentially heading towards a new round of strike action as a result of the new offer, it really should be put to the membership. Their members should have the final day whether or not they are prepared to lose more wages.

What exactly do you disagree with? Nothing needs to be put to the members and the mandate for action remains current. That is the simple fact of the matter.

It’s interesting how, although we don’t even know what the offer is yet, people on here looking in from outside the railway industry presume to dictate how ASLEF should respond, and claim to speak for ASLEF members.

The view on the ground is very different: if this offer isn’t significantly better in terms of Ts and Cs, and is just a retread of what went before, most members I know (including myself) would want to see more action taken - there’s a growing perception that ASLEF are being strung along.

The offer whatever it is will be shocking, government don't want to settle with anyone let alone us lot.

I'm quietly optimistic. If the offer was a shocker I'd have expected there to be an immediate response from ASLEF and publication of the offer, rather than silence while it's considered.

Proposal rejected. New strike action announced…

Very disappointing for all concerned.

So much for my post then...

I was feeling the same as you. A real pity.

Do we know the dates yet?

Looks like 12th and 31st May, 3rd June. Also withdrawal of overtime (I’m not quite clear whether that’s TOC specific or national, so I won’t mention the dates).

This is from an internal communication (obviously) but should be publicly available shortly.
