Looking for a little advice. A member of my family is in the process of filing a report to a rail company regarding quite sensitive concerns about a member of staff. Will the rail company take any concerns seriously, and would BTP automatically become involved? Family member is quite distress and I'm trying to help as best as I can, though this is a situation I'm unfamiliar with. Thank you.

This sounds like a delicate subject and probably one you may not feel comfortable disclosing on here, but is there any chance you can give an outline? If not, understood.

If your family member has dates, times and location of any incidents, the company may well be able to identify the individual concerned and follow any processes necessary. If you’re wondering if there is a chance BTP may be involved, then I wouldn’t be so sure as to whether the company would refer it on, in which case you may wish to contact the police on 101 (local constabulary) or text 61016.

I hope this helps a little.

Thank you for the response. We know the identity of the staff member, the concerns are quite severe. I will wait to see what the rail company respond with and go from there if the matter is not dealt with seriously.

If you believe this is a police matter then you should report it to the police as a matter of urgency. Don't offload the responsibility onto the train company especially if you don't have full faith they will report it.

If it’s an allegation of criminal misconduct then surely it would make sense for the person making the allegation to go straight to the police?

It would be useful to know: what is the nature of the accusation, is this something that occurred in the course of the person’s work, what is the relationship (if any) between accuser/accused etc.

If you aren’t able give any more information it’s going to be difficult for anyone to advise.

Yes, I believe we will be taking that step. Thank you.
