VIA to issue RFP for 300 car order

A colleague went to an event in Ottawa today where one of VIA's new Siemens trainset was open for walk through and inspection.

According to that colleague, the VIA head of fleet person stated that VIA intends to issue an RFP for 300 cars. This order would replace all non corridor trains, such as the Canadian, Ocean, White River train, etc.

Let the speculation begin!

Just out of curiosity: is that nr enough to replace all existing cars in use? Or would it mean further reduction-or perhaps, who knows, even chance on expanding services? Also, but perhaps still way too early: is it all seats or also for sleepers etc?

Their website says they have 74 locomotives and 501 passenger cars.

A lot of the HEP and Renaissance cars aren't used in traffic though. So it depends exactly what the 501 refers to.
