So I was doing some planning on a trip
London to Edinburgh by Train and was wondering if that was the best route to take? London King’s Cross - York - Newcastle - Berwick-Upon-Tweed - Edinburgh Waverley
It's dependent on what you want.
In terms of time, definitely.
In terms of scenery - most would say the WCML is more scenic. I certainly would. Avanti West Coast send a Pendolino up to Edinburgh every two hours, which would likely be highly competitive with LNER's were it not for the fact they send it via Birmingham which makes the total journey time about 5 and a half hours rather than 4 and a half.
You can also access standard premium on the WCML route meaning you can sit in first class seats without having to fork out the full amount for a first class ticket as per LNER.
I personally find the 390s on the WCML far more pleasant to ride than an 801 too, but that's subjective, so as I say, it depends on what you want.
