My colleague at work (ex BR with full safeguarded travel facilities) is travelling down to London next Saturday (26th) & returning Sunday (27th).

He is travelling with 3 non railway staff ie full public fare and was wondering what the best fare options would be for travel to & from Heathrow Airport & central London.

They would be attending the Scotland match on the 27th at the Emirates.

Cheers,

TIA

ps I think the Heathrow Express is out of their price range as thy are all from Fife. :)

Buy an Oyster card and put £8 on each. Thats enough for zone 1-6 travel for one day.

For the member of staff, I would advise that they print off this form from the Atoc website, complete it and also get their manager to complete it. They can then take it to the LU ticket office at Terminals 1,2,3 or Terminal 4 (note that Terminal 5 ticket office is run by Heathrow Express) who will enable Priv rate onto the Oyster card.

Yeah, I did suggest Oyster for the non - railway bods. Is Oyster valid on the Heathrow Conect (HC) services to Paddington and are there any priv restrictions on HC?

Oyster is only valid on Heathrow Connect between Hayes/Harlington and Paddington (and intermediate stations). If they wanted to use this route then the fare is £10.40 return each (£2.60 with Priv). Those with Oyster would also have to get off, validate, and back on a later train.

The Travelcard at £8 is the same price as one day Oyster capping and would negate the need to do this, but the Travelcard is not available at Priv rate.

Also note that the person with Priv rate oyster only benefits from reduced rail fares (eg. they pay the full adult rate for buses) and that the cap for Priv is the same as for adult, so if they do a lot of travelling on each day then the Priv holder will end up paying the same rate as his friends!

Thanks for that - I'll pass that on. Just to confirm that the Travelcard is valid on HC?

It's ok - he's ex BR but still actively employed on the railway - for First Scotrail.

If he was retired then pensions at Darlington deal with it.

As said, he isn't retired, but if he was then a different form would have to be completed, found here. As reb0118 said, this would need to be approved by Darlington. This would then be returned for the retired employee to take to a ticket office.

Group 4 is also available on the Heathrow Connect from Pad (but not Heathrow Express).
