One engine's ingress is another radiator's egress
Quite correctOne engine's ingress is another radiator's egress![]()
I suspect the problem is with rainwater ingress into the cab or other parts of the loco.
It wouldn’t surprise me if there is, and it’s coming through the old NRN Ariel point. They were of course drilled into the fibreglass cab dome and so far each patch repair post removal seems to differ on each 69.My instant reaction too, as it's in the drivers' faces - literally, and therefore bound to be reported in service.
(I can imagine the defect book entry
'Rain leaking through cab roof.'
'Checked in shed, no fault found.')
I was amazed that they left the NRN antenna bracket on the roof and didn't do a full removal - like you I would not be surprised if water was leaking in from that area.It wouldn’t surprise me if there is, and it’s coming through the old NRN Ariel point. Because it is not in GBRf livery!69001 69003 69006 booked for movement today on Peterborough-Tuebrook 0Z69 0830 via ECML/Doncaster/Marsden/Man Vic...unsure why 007 not moving. Dood
To think that, just a few pages ago, people were speculating on the Class 69 conversions having been halted.Reported that the stripped out 56104 has been transferred from Longport to Stoke Marcroft for preparation of the 14th body
69007 passed me at Clapham Junction around 1pm too! Light engine it seemed69.005 spied at Doncaster if anyone is interested
WNXX reporting today that a change to the locos for conversion has been made, 56081 & 56098 have been removed from the program and replaced by 56009 & 56097 which are both already at Longport, it's also reported that the Marie Celeste of locos, 56303, is being made ready for removal from Willesden by road
56303, is that the one stored after collision damage? Is that going to provide spare parts for GBRf.WNXX reporting today that a change to the locos for conversion has been made, 56081 & 56098 have been removed from the program and replaced by 56009 & 56097 which are both already at Longport, it's also reported that the Marie Celeste of locos, 56303, is being made ready for removal from Willesden by road
Correct, 56303 is a long-term demic after collision damage at Wembley sidings. It is/was a DCR loco but never going to run again, certainly not as a 56.56303, is that the one stored after collision damage? Is that going to provide spare parts for GBRf.
Yeah I don’t want to jinx it but they seem to be running fantastically well. Makes sense to keep the two good 56s going a while longer, now that GBRf has access to a few more non-runners.Also, interesting about 081 and 098. Maybe GBRf are planning to hold onto them as 56s given how they always seem to find new traffic.
You are right, but even though 56081 has been doing a helluva lot of EMU drag work, they have still kept the three 47s - up until now at least. The big bosses at GBRF clearly like 56s too much! On a more serious note, it will be interesting to follow those two since GBRF won’t want another micro fleet to deal with so could these be long term leased to other operators? (Colas)

I am actually surprised GBRf haven't signed a deal for 58023 to add to the GBRf portfolio of loco classes. It could go up to Peak Forest to shunt, or could be a useful road learning engine, and I ams sure there are plenty of "cranky" drivers who would like th get their hands on it.
Those tyres are going to have to be replaced before SVR diesel gala then! The 47s are due to be replaced by 69s, a few of them are being fitted with the necessary control equipment, I think 69008 will be first to take a bow
Last I read of 58023 was that it had pretty dodgy tyres, so Peak work wouldn't be a very good fit
The wheel sets (not tyres, they are monobloc) have one last turn in them by all accounts. Those tyres are going to have to be replaced before SVR diesel gala then!

D5705 (w1968) and D8233 (w1969) are stronger contenders neither have worked a service train since before the first class 56’s were ever built, not sure when they last moved themselves, but thats probably pre 1976 too.T
Re 56009, when it returns then that must be what 30 years since it last hauled a train? That must be a record for a UK diesel?
Didn’t D5705 work into the 70s on Tribology test trains with the RTC at Derby?D5705 (w1968) and D8233 (w1969) are stronger contenders neither have worked a service train since before the first class 56’s were ever built, not sure when they last moved themselves, but thats probably pre 1976 too.
