Fare Question - Help

Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help me with a strange journey for tomorrow.

I need to go from Northallerton to Newcastle and then to Leeds. I gues the question i am asking is wahtis cheaper :

1)Single Northallerton - Newcastle, Single Newcastle Leeds

2)Retrun Northallerton - Newcastle or Single Leeds.

3) Some other combination

On the way out i can go anytime before 10 but i have to get the 1740 (ish) off Newcastle to Leeds

Off-peak day return (valid any train after 09:30) Northallerton -> Newcastle £14.30

Anytime day single Northallerton -> Leeds £18.90 (train from Newcastle has to call at Northallerton for this split to be valid).

Total: £33.20

Doing a single to Newcastle and then a single to Leeds from Newcastle costs: £56.50

I'm going to have a bit of a play and see if I can find something cheaper but thought I'd put this up now for you. Also I assume you don't have any railcards?

Just worth mentioning there are advance tickets available that would get the cost down to around £26.00 pounds if you're able to tie yourself to specific trains.

The 17:44 XC Newcastle - Leeds 19:08 does not call at Northallerton, so that train cannot be used with this combination of tickets. These two trains both call at Northallerton, so they can be used:

• 17:01 TPE Newcastle - Leeds 18:35
• 18:52 TPE Newcastle - Leeds 20:35

If the 17:44 from Newcastle is imperative, try:

• CDR York - Newcastle route Any Permitted £25.40. Valid to join at Northallerton.
• CDS York - Leeds route Any Permitted £11.00.

Total £36.40

Then I suggest the £36.40 combination in post #5. The £33.20 combination is not valid on a train which does not call at Northallerton.
