I wonder if they’ll be as disgustingly sweltering hot as the Marston Vale ones were during summer. If so, I’ll be vigorously checking Realtime Trains if I ever need to use the line to ensure I time it for one of the 197 diagrams instead!

Thankfully TfW's do have aircon, whereas I don't think LNR's did.

...yet the 484s were fine even on the hottest days funnily enough, keeping all the doors must help.

What do you mean by "keeping all the doors" above? Do some trains run "door-less"...o_O
The WMT ones had two doors per coach removed and blocked off (they used to have four per side on each coach). TFW kept to four each side except for the coach with the UAT which has three doors.

it's possible we could be without trains until the 3rd then. So more imperative than ever that they work!
Just saw one rattle by near Neston.

As Mark Twain definitely said: "reports of the demise of the TfW Class 150s are greatly exaggerated".

My guess is the warm compartments might be because the Marston Vale units ran East/West so would have been side on to the midday sun. Whereas the Isle Of Wight units (class 484) are running on a North/South route so less likely to gain heat from the sun during the warmest part of the day. Thus the thermal gain possibilities for the 230s on the Borderlands line will be more like that of the Isle Of Wight Class 484 units - they wont get heated up by the sun so much.

I wonder what will happen first? 1,500 postings on this thread or a satisfactory full reliable service provision on the Borderlands Line by Class 230 units?
what does "satisfactory full reliable service" mean to you
No faults is impossible, in that case, what miles per fault (or days per fault) is "satisfactory"?
Also I think we'll hit #1500 before 230s are even running.

Do we know if they're going to try to cover both diagrams from day one or just start with one for now? Should this be true then it'll be very useful releasing 150s for other duties on the network.

My big concern is the aircon. If the LNR sets can't cope and repeatedly needed engine raft swaps, add aircon and the load on the engine will be even worse.

Shall we see if the 230s can out-burn the 175s?

I accuse you of insider betting. Very clever - by asking the question you have guaranteed the myriad of responses will take us past 1,500 and even I have now fallen for it !.

I have lost track - how many engines do the Borderlands 230s have ?. Or is it all batteries?.
