I wonder whether the 'drunks' had fallen out of the Beer Engine at Newton St Cyres and started walking/staggering along the line towards either Exeter or Crediton having just missed their train.

Never! We’re an extremely high class of clientele that frequent that establishment I’ll have you know. ;)

(Hope I don’t regret saying that)

2R89 1535 BNP-EXC 2 drunk males at Barnstaple threatening staff and passengers and physically preventing train from departing. Police attended and was 23 mins late departing.
The delay affected services for the rest of the day what with crossing services at Eggesford and Crediton as well as delaying Okehampton services.
Cowley-Crediton should never have been singled, this could at least have allowed the Okehampton services to have run normally instead of creating a bottleneck at Crediton.

I assume that was the reason for the OP's initial question.

Definitely something of a risk on some single lines distribution wise, especially a common section where two routes split later.

I will second that! A fully respectable establishment which would never permit that sort of thing! ;)

(aw - haven't been there for a few years, must do a trip down soon)

While I agree with the sentiment ( although wasn't there a problem with one of the Exe bridges? ), I don't think anyone was looking quite far ahead!

Drunks in the south-west, well oi nevvur.
