I noticed that just after Christmas, Skelton Junction had become the victim of flooding, with trains passing through at 5mph and having to stop to receive permission to pass through. Today, I noticed they had pumps on site and had cleared an area around a drain. Is there any news on what is happening and are there any plans to improve drainage in the area?
Blocked drains, perhaps? Don't think it usually floods too badly in the Timperley/Altrincham area, but, with wetter winters and global warming, there has to be a first time for everything.
Not sure if there is a similar problem in the vacinity of Reddish South station as of late trains seem to be proceeding through here at a similar rate of knots, although unlike Skelton Junction this location did at one time I think have a history of flooding?

The whole section of railway from Hale to Northenden and also Northwich area is a big mess.
The vegetation is horrendous, although they have recently cleared the trees to provide better sighting of the signal on the curve on the down at Skelton/Deansgate. I’m pretty sure in modern standards that would have a banner repeater, it certainly needs one being hidden by the footbridge until you reach the magnet which is a lot closer than 183m.
Skelton Junction floods regularly, along with the two following over bridges in the up direction, both of which have hoses laid out ready to connect a portable pump to take standing water away.
The whole line Northenden to Hale needs the lineside clearing, the buddleia scrapes ya hand if you drive with it resting on the window edge. The daftest part about the whole area is the 50 mph crossover towards a fixed red at Altrincham, that you wouldn’t want to be doing much more than 25 over but is still maintained for 50.

The stopping to receive permission is for passing the signal at danger. The flooding causes the track circuit to fail which holds the signal at red, so you’ve to receive verbal authority to proceed including instructions regards permissible speed through the affected section.
As an aside to the flooding at Skelton Junction, I heard a comment recently pointing to the amount of construction work taking place at Manchester Airport and how it could be affecting drainage for miles. Timperley Brook suffers with flooding at various times in several places, notably Stockport Road and its junction with Woodlands Parkway. Navigation Rec next to Navigation Road station regularly floods following heavy rain.
The River Bollin too has caused a lot of flooding this week on the border of Dunham and Little Bollington. Generally, the wider Altrincham area never suffered from such flooding in the past, but it does seem to occur with a lot more frequency these days.
