2999 Lady of Legend Failure

I was at the Flying Scotsman event on the East Lancashire Railway yesterday, and as I got off of the 104 from Heywood, I waited for the steam service to Rawtenstall, which ended up being a Class 33, instead of Lady of Legend. The ELR says it was a mechanical failure, but nothing else.
Does anyone know what happened and what will happen to the loco?

I know nothing beyond this.

A friend of mine was on a train hauled by 2999 last week, and told me that she was running a bit oddly, though it seemed to improve through the day.

I seem to remember it also failed on the Watercress Line before Christmas.

Yes, though using numerous number of parts from 4942 Maindy Hall.

A broken leaf spring is a fairly minor repair but unfortunately it will result in a loco being removed from service.

If you booked a place on this train and something different turned up. Can you get a refund for not getting what was advertised ? Or are replacement units part and parcel of the heritage scene ?

I think in the T & Cs of Heritage railways they say that services "are subject to availability..." It is generally accepted that substitutions etc are sometimes unavoidable as much of the equipment being used is over 70 years old! It all adds to the charm/experience....

The relevant page on the ELR's web site says just that .... "Please note all locomotives are subject to availability."

Spare spring available at, and being obtained from Didcot. 33109 trains were quite full on Sunday..............

Given the difficulties much of the heritage sector has, I'd personally just stomach it and not claim if anything failed to produce as expected...

I was there for the Scotsman train, and the replacement for 2999 was really good. Train failures do happen and it's usually not the line's fault, so there's no need for a refund.

That’s the trouble with new builds. Sometimes they serve as a reminder of why the originals were all scrapped in the first place!

Yes, of course the Saints were not very reliable , most of them only made 40 years of service.......
