Some TOCs have a policy of despatching as soon as the train is ready at stations very close to London Termini, that may be the case at Finsbury Park.

If that is true then the other dispatchers are breaking the rules then! Any trains that arrive early will be held and leave dead on time. As such, many Moorgate services wait a minute or two before going (platform 1) - while a lot of trains to King's Cross (on platform 2) will be dispatched quickly as they're invariably a minute or two late.

It's good there too, as a lot of people are trying to board these trains. It's not a station where you could argue that trains could possibly become set down early.

RA is a pretty watertight spad-proof system.

FirstGroup are trying to put pressure on the ORR to remove it at Manchester Airport, in order to introduce self-dispatch thus doing away with dispatch staff to save money.

I counted at least eight spanners being slung into the works by various staff, companies and organisations so far.

And if something did happen, how would he stop the train once it pulled out?

With drivers no longer needing to stick there heads out of a window with CD/RA (they would in bat and flag days) stop trains once it has pulled out is 95% impossible. The only thing you can do is blow your whistle, but if driver doesn't hear it the answer to your question is obvious.

Thinking of Vauxhall?

I wasn't specifically thinking of SWT, but in areas where there is a high frequency and trains that are full and standing there is little point in waiting in a platform when you could just as easily get on your way and leave an empty section behind you for the next train to occupy.
