I'm travelling from Heathrow to Chelmsford tomorrow transferring from (my first time on) the Elizabeth Line to Greater Anglia and according to timetables I can have a 8 minute transfer at Liverpool St or a 6 minute transfer at Stratford.
I don't have to make either of those as there are subsequent trains but I was wondering which transfer would be easiest anyway?

If you're changing from the Elizabeth line, I'd suggest Stratford. Less far to walk as the Elizabeth lines and Greater Anglia platforms are parallel to each other. You'll probably arrive on Platform 8 and your Chelmsford train will probably leave from Platform 10.

It does have less facilities than Liverpool Street, but as you're going somewhere with a frequent service anyway, you shouldnt have long to wait.

I would imagine you are using a through ticket but if using Oyster or contactless, don’t forget to touch out on the platform at Stratford. You don’t pass through any ticket gates.

Depends on how many changes you want. Elizabeth Line services from Heathrow only go to Abbey Wood, so you would need to change at Liverpool Street regardless. Stratford is only on Shenfield services which don't operate from Heathrow (only Paddington).

So basically you can either do Heathrow - Paddington - Stratford - Chelmsford or Heathrow - Liverpool Street - Chelmsford.

I sorta know that but it has been a steep learning curve, I think it becomes more straightforward from May when there will be Heathrow to Shenfield (via Stratford) trains but I think still only 2 per hour - still a great option.
For my own future reference I need to check where I can tap out as I missed it at Stratford last time.

Mistakenly I have bought a through ticket as I didn't know any better - but it does allow me to used the more frequent (and costlier) Heathrow Express which will speed things up for me - I will use contactless in the future

It is a strike day tomorrow. so I would definitely change at Liverpool Street , especially if you have luggage, due to limited service on Greater Anglia

Changing at Stratford is easier than at Liverpool Street. Yes, currently you need to change at Paddington as well, but that's the same platform so even easier.
In the rush hour there might be something to be said for changing at Liverpool Street, as you get first go at getting a seat on the GA train.

Stratford is the easier change, Liverpool Street with Luggage will not be fun, 2 long escalators or 2 Elevators with a walk and stairs, it’s about 6 mins from EL platform to a GA platform at a brisk walk

Stratford it will be 2 short escalators approx 2 mins of walking if that

Regular journey for me, and I only consider Stratford if it means I have a chance to catch a train I would have missed by changing at Liverpool St.

Liverpool St has the disadvantage of a longer walk for sure, but the advantage of sitting in a warm train in the dry. Stratford on a rainy day is awful due to the lack of cover on platforms 9 and 10.

No escalators, just stairs or lift between platforms 8 and 10.

I'd suggest Stratford as it's a shorter walk.

The walk at Liverpool Street from the Elizabeth line platform isn't something I'd like to do regularly.
