This is veering slightly off-topic, but when I was at Mouldsworth last month I noticed that neither of the platforms has a ‘passengers must not pass this point’ sign at the Chester end. Is this because passengers rarely venture beyond the bridge and so it’s not felt necessary? (I had half an hour to kill so I did wander down the whole length of the platform, managing not to go down the ramp despite the lack of signage!)
On the Chester-bound platform, passengers aren't allowed to pass underneath the bridge as it is beyond the prohibition sign. So there wouldn't need to be another at the end of the platform. Not sure about the other platform though!

I don’t remember seeing one on the Altrincham-bound platform but I was very tired after walking from Helsby station over Helsby Hill so I may well have missed it (and therefore gone past it in error!). I did board on the third carriage because I wanted to be in the guard’s portion to show willing to buy a ticket, and I think all doors opened, so I suspect (hope!) that passengers are allowed beyond the bridge on the Altrincham-bound platform.

That is quite the walk! The Mouldsworth Up platform (Stockport-bound) can only fully accommodate 3 coaches of 15x stock, the rear of the fourth hangs of the platform. The method of work will have been that the conductor "appears" to release all doors (all hazard lights illuminate), however the fourth coach is locked out of use both externally and internally and therefore not passenger accessible.

That would all tally with my experience. The only question is did I pass a sign before the bridge illegally?!

I was looking out for the sign last night on the Altrincham bound platform, and it's on a pole before the bridge. So technically beyond the bridge on both sides is not for public access.

Just to add to this - as a regular user they seem to be sticking more 2 car trains on in the peak services and they a LOT busier than they were even a couple months ago, hopefully something can be sorted long term as it's full and standing more or less from Knutsford now even with the peak 30 mins service...
