I’d be interested in where you get the data from to support your claim. Can you share the evidence about the scores being lower. Seems strange that a company would advise people to do something that gives them a disadvantage. But will read with interest your facts?
But the OP has data that shows that using a mouse lowers scores. Not ‘speculate’ but evidence. The concern is that people will follow the advice, fail the test, based on his recommendations.

sorry, not disagreeing with your point. It’s others saying that the instructions are designed to limit success, and ignoring them will help people pass. All people should do is read these ‘experts’ comments with a level of scepticism until there’s something substantive. Some people are desperately looking for any help in getting a job, and could risk these opportunities
You do not need really need to buy anything at all, and personally I along with others would advise against it. The practice material should be enough. For now just fill out the tests to the best of your ability.
Not even the SJT or PQ?
I would say especially not those tests. As they suggest, they are tests which are about your personality (hence Personality Questionnaire) and how you would act in a situation based on your judgements (hence Situational Judgement Test). The best thing to do there is to read the questions and answer honestly, and don't overthink your answers. I managed them without any previous experience, so I am sure you could do it too.
The practice material will be attached to invitations for the in-person paper assessments as a PDF file. You can print them off when you get them.

It's difficult to go into an enhanced test blind. I can only hope that my current knowledge and experience will serve as a guide.
I must stress that ultimately it is up to you if you want to buy any practice material, and I must also confess that I did buy a book to allow me to practice some group bourdon tests (which to be fair, you can train yourself to get better at such as with spotting the four dots and working fast and accurately). But I think many would argue here that you can get through it without buying anything, so I would definitely suggest not spending £50 on practice material. However do be aware that Avanti do not use the SCAAT tests so definitely don't buy that one.
It's okay, I managed, and I only failed because I was on bad form rather than lack of skill and preparation. Keep a clear head about you and check in on the forums when you have questions and you should be good though.
I just put a few in my cart and had seen SCAAT mentioned elsewhere, so that's a few quid saved. I'm considering the purchase to help me prepare for the assessment; the content is relevant, but the main reason is to familiarise myself with structure and expectations.

I failed a single test in the computer assessments in January and am still on a six-month period before I can try again. I personally believe that I only failed because of bad form and pressing a button too many times. Mine was with Avanti for Liverpool depot as well.
These 5 are on the computer, and I haven't been given practice material... That's the reason I'm considering it, because I want to understand how it's structured.

These ones won't have practice material, but the psychometric tests will. If you want more information on the tests you can just check if the OPC has information on their sites. This is the page for SJT test, but if the link doesn't work here just Google "train driver SJT test" and the first result should be the OPC website. That should give you the information you need to go through.

Yes, these tests are fine on touchscreen. It's the next stage which requires a mouse to do correctly/accurately

Finished, I see what you mean - there isn't much that could be revised. You just have to believe what you believe, and for me, that was that rules, safety, and procedure constitute the most important aspects of being a good train driver.

As far as I am aware the VSE and SJT do not count towards your two lives because they aren't kept on record. That said, the process is somewhat unclear, and I believe the VSE is part of Avanti's enhanced standards. I think most here would advise you not to risk your current talent pool position, but it's up to you at the end of the day.
