Personally I'd recommend not using a VPN to disguise your personal web-browsing activities in work - you could end up being accused of all sorts by the security team, and it's not unheard of for people to get sacked over it. Much better to use a personal mobile if that's possible without any issues.

According to a note from yesterday on UTTracker and confirmed by Google street view, the platforms at Dullingham are labelled the wrong way round on Traksy.

How long has Middlesbrough been on Traksy? I thought it wasn’t on there, but it might just be me massively mis-remembering.

About a year now, I believe. The area was re-controlled to York ROC.

Hi there,

Having just a service from Hull, heading towards Leeds, it passes over Hambleton West Jnc and then goes missing until it appears after Gascoigne Wood Jnc, so I think a berth is missing here in the wet bound direction only. Can this be added when you have a minute please? Thanks

Theres whole signal boxes with no train describer on that line of route, hence with no train describer theres no data to produce a map:

Hull Paragon - no describer
Hessle Road - no describer
York ROC - train describer
Selby - no describer
York ROC - train describer
Gascoigne Wood - no describer
York ROC - train describer

As far as I'm aware, all of those signalboxes have train describers, it is just that some of them don't have an open data feed.

Having looked at RTT Gascoigne Wood seems to be a manual entry, but it used to have continual coverage there on the maps. Has it just been resignalled?

Selby certainly doesn’t, just next train approaching/next train sent with the ROC each side. Same for Gascoigne Wood and Hessle Road from memory

That sounds like there may only be what S&T call fringe TD systems. Some mechanical signal boxes where the next box is a power box / signalling centre have these minimal TD systems. They can only send and record descriptions to/from the power box / signalling centre. There are no signal berths like in a normal system.

I'm no expert with these things, but somewhat ironically the WiFi at my local railway station stops Traksy (and RTT for that matter), yet is fine with social networks (or at least the one that I am on, not that I use it that much)!

Anyway, before I derail the subject of the thread too much, thank you so much for all your hard work in building and maintaining a high quality resource, I think I'd be lost without it :D
Our work WI-FI also blocks RTT.... Hugely ironic as we were told by Management to use RTT to check on running times and unit allocations....

Not very important, but there’s a stretch of track at Bedford, between platform 1a and the up-and-down Bletchley / Bedford goods loop which frequently shows random trains from elsewhere on the TL/EMR routes, sometimes ones which have completed their journey. Just now it was 9O56 17:57 Herne Hill to Luton. Just a curiosity.

I’d be interested to know exactly where the first block approaching Chester from Wrexham General is on Traksy’s maps, but the fact that there’s no description on there currently makes me think that it’s the sort of thing that can show ‘train approaching/train in next berth etc’ but it can’t pinpoint it because it’s a long section. But even that would be good to know, as currently it just shows as a long run of unnamed blocks up to Saltney Junction. (Note, this isn’t a criticism and I’m well aware of the limitations that exist outside fully modernised areas!)

These boxes don't and never have had a Train Describer Feed, the only data available without looking directly at the signallers panel is the manual Trust reports that can be seen in RTT.

I do hope they correct the map of Eastleigh one day. Where's the route from the down fast into plat 2, at the north end of the station?

You should get in touch with them. It's quite possible they haven't been to Eastleigh for 40 years and don't know about the routes into platform 2

That's berth [CSA485], which as you surmised, is the Chester PSB's 'approach' berth from the Wrexham direction;
it usually 'lights up' a minute or so after a Chester-bound train has departed from Gobowen and stays occupied until
it enters the single line section from Wrexham General to Rossett Junction.

, as currently it just shows as a long run of unnamed blocks up to Saltney Junction. (Note, this isn’t a criticism and I’m well aware of the limitations that exist outside fully modernised areas!)

The other 'unnamed berths' in that direction are located as follows:

[CS0494] - single line section from Wrexham to Rossett
[CS0492] - between Rossett and Broad Oak level crossing
[CS0490] - between Broad Oak and Pulford level crossings
[CS0486] - between Pulford and Balderton level crossings
[CS0484] - between Balderton and Green Lane level crossings
[CS0482] - between Green Lane level crossing and Saltley Junction

Hope this helps!

There‘s also a trailing crossover missing at the very start of the Chandlers Ford branch, right alongside the signalling centre! It’s essential for moves from the P2/3 side towards Chandlers Ford.
(That’s also missing on open train times map, at least they’re consistent.)

What's the reason for most of the Hope Valley not being on Tracksy?

As per Toommm's reply, the Hope Valley is controlled by 'manual' signalboxes
which are not equipped with Train Describer equipment - on such lines, the only*
way of reporting a train's location is for the signallers to manually input passing
times into a TRUST terminal after they have seen the train in question.

* some passenger stock is equipped with GPS transponders these days,
so they can report directly to TRUST at stations on manually signalled routes.
This is a good example:

...if you hover over the 'actual' times, many of them will show TRUST(GPS)

And presumably Trust(SDR) is the manual reporting at the signal boxes?
Yes, ‘Simplified Direct Report’
And TD obviously is where the TD is linked and reports automatically, with the particular train describer in the brackets. There is a list of all the TDs somewhere on the site so you can see which one has sent the report, and that they are currently online.

How does Traksy get updated following resignalling work? Recently schemes have taken place on the routes from Radyr, and last weekend around Llanelli.

It should be updated in the next week. Unfortunately we aren't getting any updates, notifications or documentation from Network Rail at the minute, so sometimes we are playing catch-up, particularly with the smaller changes.

No worries, that's very understandable if NR provide no updates! Maybe useful if forum members let you know of changes via this thread?

No problem if they do, although it's usually more effective if you email. I've had a couple of emails already about these changes, which is handy as it alerts me that there's something significant happening. Just haven't had a chance to respond yet.

I did email Traksy ages ago about inaccuracies in the layout at the north end of Eastleigh, but it's never been corrected...
My experience has been that my suggestions to Traksy have been acknowledged and implemented in due course, whereas my similar input to Open Train Times has been completely ignored. Sorry to hear your experience wasn’t as good as mine.

I once emailed Traksy whilst on a railtour about an issue that had been spotted with a loop not being in the right place on a map (which wasn't surprising it was between the running lines rather than to one side, somewhat counter intuitively) and it was fixed before I left the railtour that night!
