I absolutely can. They play hardball against drivers at ScotRail at their peril. What will happen is that through the LLC they will signal that they not be working them from 12th August next year and if any action gets taken against any driver refusing to work them, a ballot for strike action will take place.
They’ve already refused to drive class 153 units from the small cabs stating that they’re unsafe. Whilst these are only 5 units which constitute a micro fleet here, they are quite clear that they will stick to their position when it’s based on safety. There’s not much ScotRail can do about it, and I’m shocked they haven’t started putting plans in place to avert this.
I am guessing that Scottish Government think that safety concerns will disappear if drivers are offered enough money.
Personally I will be mildly amused by the SNP having to deal with 25 intercity trains being blacklisted but I would be hugely surprised if that happened.
