I’m slightly baffled at the continuing Manchester recruitment! There’s now not enough vacancies in the roster for the current drivers coming through training as it was heavily dependent on Crewe depot opening which is all up in the air.
This is the 3rd time advertising since September so hopefully they’re planning on opening the base and not just wasting money for no reason.

Hi All. First post. Followed this tread from the last time applications opened so decided to apply for Manchester depot. Good luck everyone!

I’ve noticed that this round of applications doesn’t mention a talent pool. Would those in this new round go ahead of those who passed the last round for any potential course dates in the future?
I wouldn't have thought so. I'd hope that most people from the previous round will be on courses by the time this recruitment drive gets to the DMI stage, although they did say that some of the courses wouldn't be until next year. Can't see why they'd put people ahead who applied later though, maybe they're just planning on having more courses up and running ready for the end of this drive or maybe it's just a typo and it will go to talent pool.

I see no reason why they would do this. I think it’s likely we will be given course dates before before this round of applicants gets to DMI stage

This is what I'm hoping but I can see them waiting till everyone gets through and then putting us all together on courses, instead of running more courses for the latest ones that pass

Not on the advert, but on the "stages of recruitment process", under the last heading it says "This stage is the final stage in the process and hosted by Avanti West Coast. This is an interview with the driver management team and if successful at this stage individuals will enter the talent bank"

Also, I've noticed DFFT is listed as one of the stage 1 tests. Is this new? Can anyone remember if they had to do a DFFT?

I think there would be too many people to put through all at once. It makes more sense to stagger them through the year, that’s just my opinion however

I would have thought they'd want to start putting people through training sooner rather than waiting another 6 months till everyone gets through the next recruitment drive if they need to start showing improvement. They could have trainees through the classroom based training before this next recruitment drive gets to DMI and then you'd think that would make more sense staggering it so not everyone is getting to the driving stage at the same time with limited resources such as driver trainers etc but who knows.

Also I could have sworn they said they were probably running 2 courses this year in my DMI and someone mentioned on here that there was a course in March but don't know for sure.

I don’t think they’d ever put everyone through the course at the same time.

Do you know when the second course would be starting?

No sorry, I don't even know if that first date is correct. Someone just mentioned on this thread but it might not be accurate.

I may be cynical, but to catch a wolf you have to think like a wolf (as they say)
Recruitment is different to Employment.
Everyone in the/a talent pool is effectively "recruited" but that doesn't necessarily mean employed.

For quota purposes to bring forward to DfT, I can say "I've recruited/looking to recruit 100 drivers this year" without actually employing any. Though this doesn't solve the driver shortage, it doesn't stop Avanti from filling up the pool as and when they please.
Especially if trying to meet diversity targets.

But surely they have to start putting those future drivers through training, otherwise they'd just be prolonging losing the franchise, wasting money and failing to meet targets on improving services.

So from what I saw they had jobs at Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Edinburgh and one more but the page won't load.
Euston was on there too

Heard nothing since the email a week and a half a go. Thought they wanted to arrange them for end of Feb. Well that's not going to happen. Hoping to hear something this week.
My friend has just had his off the back of the email you got last week. I still haven’t even got that email so I have no idea. Tempted to email the OPC to ensure the correct info has been sent over

What’s he rec’d? Interview dates or just the contact update?

I don’t see any harm in checking the OPC have given Avanti the correct details.
