Can anyone please identify this scene (from a painting)?

Trying to identify this painting location.

It's been suggested that it is West Cumbria line near Whitehaven but I know this very well and think it only a bit similar and not at all representative of the Parton / Lowca area of that line.

It may not be representative of any 'real' scene of course - it looks quite impressionistic to my untutored eye - eg roads and habitations not really depicted.

The locomotive depicted looks to me like c 1860s+ The sail boat at the (coal / slate?) loading staithe similar date maybe


Any ideas most welcome

Well I’m far from confident that this suggestion is correct, but could it be the Cambrian coast railway approaching Barmouth when viewed from the slopes of Cader Idris across the estuary? If this scene depicts the mid 1800s then the seaside town would be much less developed than currently?

It looks to me like the north Wales coast, looking over Dwygyfylchi and Penmaenbach from the west, with the Great Orme in the background. But I’m not confident on that.

The further area of water behind the peninsula supports it too.

I agree with the Dwygyfylchi and Llandudno opinion. I can't make any detail of the boat or train in the low resolution image attached, but the large hill in the middle of the painting is certainly Allt Wen, above Dwygyfylchi. To its right, in shadow, the Sychnant Pass (and old road toward Conwy) is seen.
