I've made a couple of Lumo journeys over the past couple of weeks and I've been starting to notice how their condition is getting a bit rough and ready, so to speak.

803005 has various seatback tables missing in different carriages, which is hardly good on a long journey.

I'm on 803004 currently and the seat reservation displays down part of Coach A are broken and not displaying anything.

Is this bad luck, poor maintenance, or just a slightly different build quality compared to the rest of the IET fleet? I assume the fact that the spares rate is a lot lower (basically one spare per day) might have something to do with it.

These trains are always well loaded and do take a battering. Did you report it to staff or the social media team?

Given that their policy seems to be that reservations are actually compulsory rather than just fake-compulsory, do they even need reservation displays? Eurostar don't use theirs.

Half the time they don't work on Avanti and GWR anyway, it's like they've given up.

I would say so.

I got on one the other week without a reservation and sat in a seat with a green light indicating it was available. Most of the coach was red or orange lights but their were a few green lights for us walk up passengers saving any embarrassing incidents of ‘sitting in someone’s seat’.

Seems to depend how busy the train is. I caught the 1958 yesterday from Edinburgh to Newcastle and it was maybe a quarter full in A. I'd been given a reserved seat next to a pillar in E and even one of the ambassadors was telling passengers boarding in A just to look for green lights if they weren't sure where to sit.

I did report the issues to Lumo social media though.

Lights off would have probably worked when the unreserved carriage was E, but now the actual unreserved seats are scattered about (usually the windowless ones at carriage ends which should really be luggage racks)
