Upset football fans

I'd guess there'll be quite a few upset football fans around soon. Supporters of any of the 12 championship clubs due to be away on Sunday May 8th, the last day of the season. The problem? The Football League, in consultation with the clubs, Sky and the BBC, have bought the matches forward to Saturday lunchtime! No reason is given.

In contrast, the TOCs that have already sold Advance tickets will be rubbing their hands with glee.

Isn't their beef more with the clubs? Mind you with Sunday services starting later they may find it a struggle to get to the venues by train!

Mind you a lot of supporters travel by coach. If Exeter are away the offical supporter coaches are often loading at 7am for a 3pm kick off!

Its typical of footbal clubs and the TV companies today, they care little for fans (especially away ones) who actually attend matches but are just interested in armchair watchers ( I hate to call them fans).

Sundays are the worse, 1 game kicks off at 12.15, another at 12.30, 12.45, 13.00, 13.30, 14.00, 15.00, 16.00.

A few years back a the kick off time for a six nations Rugby match at Cardiff was changed at the last minute. As a result FGW decided to provide NO trains from Cardiff to London at the time.

Not this time. I've now discovered that the reason is so that Sky can concentrate on Man U v Chelsea on the Sunday.

Yes, but for an admin fee, plus possibly more money if the best tickets on the new day have already gone, always assuming that the new day is convenient anyway - anyone going to a wedding, for instance?

Agreed completely, although it's not the championship clubs behind this one.

I think so. Although as this is the last day of the championship season, all the matches have to kick-off at the same time so no-one gets an advantage.

As for me, my club is at home that weekend, but I'd already made plans for Saturday 7th based on the fact that football would be on the 8th. I'm now very torn which way to turn. It may depend on whether anything hinges on the result.

My team was away at Leicester on the last day of last season which was a Sunday. I go to most games. I live in London. To get there by train I would have needed an overnight stay.

Well living in Lincoln i would assume Lincoln City, but i suggest you dont support your local team and support a team about 100 miles away!:roll:
