Just come back from a great day out at Donnie and Sheffie, waiting for my train at Tamwrth and head the announcement for the 2019 service to Leeds. No TOC announced with it but said it was five cars

We look up from the booking office on platform one and I turn and look up and see a Virgin Super Voyager on the service.

I know that this train is a XC service so has one been shunted over?

A Virgin super voyager did go on hire to Cross Country once but that was a couple of years ago now. May well of happened more times but I only know of it happening once.

That service was operated by 220011 this evening.
Virgin 221s cannot by driven by Cross Country drivers due to the tilt system being operational still

This suggests that only you actually saw the Voyager, are you sure you didn't just imagine it? Especially since you have described it as hellfire!

Thrash?

Hellfire?

I don't believe you even saw a Voyager if that's the case! ;)

That's what I was thinking! Now as modern DMUs go the Voyagers do have a nice growl, but Thrash and Hellfire!? Not a chance! ;)

My thoughts exactly

(as well as to question "Sheffie" in the initial post)

Sounds like a few of you guys are doubting me and my eyesight ;)

I might wear glasses and I might have been a little bit tired but I definitely saw a Virgin Class 221 Super Voyager going through the high level and about twenty past/twenty five past eight at night

Were you there much longer after? Is it not possible this was just an ECS in front (or even behind) then 2019, which was held at a red?

Nope, got to Tammy off of the 2001 from Cardiff Central, found my camera had lost all power in the battery, almost got bowled over by a Stobart 66 on the low level, almost got rolled by a EWS 66 on the high level, walked off, heard the announcement for the 2019 which was:

The next train to depart from platform 3 will be the 2019 service to Leeds

No Cross Country, no Virgin Trains, No London Midland, no TOC with it at all and after I get into the waiting area and have a seat, look up at 2019 and see it slowly departing from the station.

It could have been an ECS, could have been an ESM, could have been anything if I am honest

Did you get the number of the 221 you saw? I didn't think Virgin could spare any 221s since they used one to extend another to 5 carriages

You mean the 60/90/HST that worked the 0746 Euston - Crewe which had refurbished mk2s that were photographed in a photoshopped image...? :L

No - because it would still be 'active'. They would have to be trained separately to be able to use TASS active sets.

To set the record right, Yes they can drive them and do if for example Virgin can't cover an ECS to / from Central Rivers (CZ). They just isolate TASS !

Also could the train the OP saw have been 5D59 20.07 New St - CZ due at CZ at 20.34 , the last part of WO21 turn.
