Likely one of the network rail 153s.

SRA is the CRS code for Stratford.

The route is Stratford-Barking-Laindon-Southend Central-Laindon-Fenchurch Street-Laindon-Shoeburyness-Laindon-Barking-Stratford.

At a guess, it's a route learner.

It's a Q train and it's using the Track Recording Coach TSC, suggesting it's a test train recording data rather than a route learner.

Could it do both at the same time - more economical?
Could possibly do a cab ride but you'll only be able to get so many people in the front. I'd imagine that C2C would find it easier to arrange their own route learning though.

Its a Class 153 doing Track Recording - its on trial in Anglia and another region either Wessex or Sussex, I forget which now. Modern Railways covered it last year and I think its to see whether NR could dispense with track patrolling using track workers.

Definitely not a route learner as such though I suppose in theory someone could use it to learn the route whilst its operating.

Thanks.
I had no idea whereabouts in the UK the OP was talking about.
I think posters on this forum are supposed to give station names in full
in the very first post of a new thread, but many people simply forget to
do that because they don't realise that people in other parts of the country
can't possibly know codes of stations hundreds of miles away off by heart.

It's even worse on aviation forums - most people who fly fairly regularly
probably know where LHR and LAX are, but they also exclusive use three
letter codes for obscure Asian/African airports too! <(

It’s very easy to put the 3 letter station code into any National Rail, TOC or RealTimeTrains search to find out what station it is if it really is too hard to decipher. I have never understood why that is such an issue on this rail related forum. It often just seems to me like certain posters just like making a point.

It's not immediately accessible if you're using assistive technology like screen readers and some posters have a habit of using unofficial abbreviations (BNS being the classic one) which can lead to confusion. It does not take long to type the station name once, e.g. Stratford (SRA), and then you can use the abbreviation from then on.

It's also "very easy" just to type out the name of the station in plain English to begin with! ;)

Especially silly not to give the station name for this one as ”SRA” has another railway meaning.

Though I always liked the quip that it should have been called the “R” as it didn’t have any Strategy or any Authority.
